Haven't fired one, but I was very impressed with the triggers and handling of the ones I have lokked at in stores. I'm not sold on the little adjustable sights, though.
Ruger SR9c
Just purchased a Ruger SR9c. Anybody out there have one they can tell me about it?

Were the FTF's fees or fire problems?
Probably ammo then, just like you said.
That'd be my guess. That is the only foreign ammo I know of that walmart carries.
