I would like yall's input on a decision. First off the purpose of this pistol will simply be to wear it in an OWB holster around the house as I work from home. If I leave the house I will be wearing my M&PC. Just looking for a light revolver even though I could get an OWB holster for say my bodygaurd 380. However, where is the fun in that? I have narrowed it down to these two.

S&W 442 Pro Series- (Only $26 more than normal one so why not)
Pros=Holster readily availabe, customizable trigger pull weight with a wilson combat tuning kit ($8), and of course it's a Smith.
Cons=It is DA only (I know one would never need to cock said gun in a defensive situation but is nice for just target shooting), 5 shot cylinder, does not have the VZ grips which I like (can be added later for around $75), also cost $120 more without the grips.

Taurus 856
Pros=6 shot cylinder instead of 5, can be shot single action, already has the VZ grips, and is $120 cheaper.
Cons=It is a Taurus not a Smith, a little wider to accomodate the extra round, can not find a OWB holster I like (EX: Safariland 6378) that is in production yet for the newer 856 model taurus.

Both are close to the same weight and rated for continual +p use. I have included pic of the two models that I am looking at. (The smith picture is of the regular version not the pro series.

I'm leaning toward the Smith. Just wondered if anyone had any other experience or knowledge of why one would choose the Taurus. The other big issue is the availability of holsters. Doesn't do me any good if I cant carry a carry gun the way I want to.

I actually killed a deer with my little 442 - well, at least I finished her off. Hit her in the spine with an arrow that paralyzed her back legs but didn't hit any vitals that would have killed her. I was able to slowly walk up to about 10 ft away and it took 2 shots with the 442 to hit her in the brain to finish her off.

I have had no trouble with several Taurus guns I have owned and carried over the years. That said, you can't go wrong with an S&W. My wife carries the S&W 642 (I carried it a while before giving it to her) and I sometimes carry a S&W M-24 or M-66.

I think you will find that the Taurus will go in the same holster as a J-frame S&W, maybe a tight fit that would benefit from wet-fitting, or might fit a holster for a Colt small frame (like the Detective Special) without wet-fitting it.

My only issue with the Taurus would be a gritty trigger until you really get it broken in. Every one that I have owned (Sans the Judge) had a gritty trigger.
Oh, and I always like a hammer.

Heck, Brian, ALL revolvers need a trigger job when new anyway! That's no hill for a stepper! ;)

I’ve had a few Taurus revolvers and haven’t had any issues with them except when I didn’t clean as I should. I’d pass on the hammerless,no matter the brand,if it’s going in a holster.

You should have seen me about a year ago, I let a hammerless S&W go to a friend. I just do not like any revolver without an exposed hammer. I own both S&W and Taurus revolvers. Unless I could not put it into my gun budget at the time, I would go with the S&W due to faster warranty work and higher resale values. I would rather buy Taurus handguns used; if there are any issues they will be showing then.
