I see that S&W 5906 police trade-ins are selling for $299 shipped at CDNN. Anyone had any experience with the 5906? Pros and cons? What about police trade-ins? Share your positive and negative experiences. Thanks!
The first Glock I bought, actually the first handgun I bought, was a police trade-in 22. It came with one high cap and night sights. It was a good gun, just had holster wear.
they are good guns in my book just heavy.. 99 or 2000 was the last year they made them i think and 1989 was year one?. I still see a good many leo's carrying these around. With that being said 10-20 years of duty carry could leave these is asorted shape from NIB to paperweight. If they had nightsights you could count them as useless by now
I briefly owned a police trade-in 5946 which is similar but DAO.
They are very well built, absolutely reliable, a little clunky, quite heavy, and the trigger isn't great. Would make a good glovebox gun, but I ended up trading it for something else.
Out of the several S & W 9mm's I own, the 5906 is my "go to" gun. It's the one in my bedroom, and my favorite at the range. It would be the one I would keep if I could only have one. It, too, was a LE trade-in. I overpaid a little because the GB seller claimed the night sights worked. They didn't.
Probably not many rounds through it. Might need a couple of springs, but I doubt it. These things will last forever. $299 is a good price. In case you can't tell...I'm a fan.
Thanks for the info. I think I'm going to pull the trigger on one of these next week. I figure it will make an excellent companion when traveling. How are they as far as reliability?
