S&W "E" Series

Anybody seen one of the S&W Enhanced 1911s? Being a fan of 1911s in general and American made 1911s in particular I may have to buy one of these. The other S&Ws I looked at didn't equal the percieved quality of my Kimbers so I passed. The E Series are supposed to have most if not all of the upgrades you expect and better fitting of slide/frame. My next buy will either be a Kimber Carry HD or one of the E series Smiths. If you see one let me know where and how you liked it. If you buy one I sure would like to handle and fire one.

From a strictly asthetic point I agree whole heartedly with you. The S&W "E" Series uses the standard S&W frame and slide but with a few enhancements. They have an external extractor. It has been my experience that the external extractor is more reliable than the internal. I have Sigs that will eat any ammo that will feed. I have Colts and a Kimber that will only reliably shoot brass cased ammo. That is especially true if shooting a long string and things start to warm up. My "transition" Kimber has functioned with all types so far but I haven't fired any extended sessions with it. Keep in mind this is my experience with my four pistols. The next one I buy may give the exact opposite results.

Yeah i've always heard external was more reliable. But when both of my 1911s with internal function nothing hort of flawlessly as long as I'm using decent mags, ammo and they haven't been rolled in mud, I'll just go for aesthetics ha.

But in all seriousness, my only problem with the external is basically because it just doesn't look like a 1911 should look to me...but then you gotta think about the beavertail safeties, and the ambi safeties, and the skeletonized triggers and so-on and how none of them go with the original design either....and then the external extractor doesn't seem so bad...but it still just doesn't look quite right, and all those other nifty little innovations tend to look pretty good.

If sig and smith are still sticking to a external after all this time though, there must be a reason, so I won't knock it for anything other than the slightly less aesthetic appeal of it
