Found this one in a pawn shop a couple of weeks ago. From 1975-1980 Savage made a version of the Savage 99 Series A that was referred to as the "Brush Gun". It was made in .358 Winchester and .375 Winchester (1980 only). This model has a straight grip stock with no checkering, factory recoil pad, factory sling swivels and long flutes along the top edge of the forend. It has a light profile 22" barrel weighs a little over 7 lbs. It also has an aluminum magazine rotor instead of a brass one like the earlier models. This one is a 1977 model.
The bluing on this one is 95%+ and the case coloring on the lever is nearly perfect.
The problem with it is the wood finish. The wood is in good condition but the finish is peeling. The varnish used on these later Savage 99's didn't adhere well and is brittle. You can scrape it off with a fingernail. After I finish my current project I plan to remove it and refinish with Tru Oil.
