Got a 308 savage axis from a member on here a while back and finally got to shoot it. Needless to say it’s screwed up. Accuracy is fine but it drops the round about halfway back as you pull the bolt. Does it every time. Doesn’t matter how quick or slow you run the bolt. It’s like it just kicks the brass off the bolt before it extracts it. Any ideas on where to start?

Seems to be a common problem with the Axis

I figured it had something wrong there or in magazine. I never knew that this rifle had 2 steel ball bearings under this extractor . I never had to work on a Axis yet. I better go check mine. Thanks for the article.

Well. Replaced the ball with one recommended and made sure the first buffer was turned correctly. Still no joy. It works fine on a complete round but kicks empty brass off as it clears the chamber. Reckon a improved extractor and spring kit is in my future. Thanks for the ideas everyone.
