I like doing my own, if I can. I watched their videos and it looks to be doable! I'm just wondering how they compare to Shilen and Krieger and such. It would be $340 for the barrel plus shipping.
Then, I'm guessing $100 in tools and guages.

I have a 700 chambered in 7mm Mag and I'm thinking about turning it into a 300 Win mag, I wish we were closer we could do them at the same time and save a little money. Remington and Savage both use the same action wrench so it would'nt be too bad.

The chrome moly might be in the white with no finish and you would have to blue it, parkerize it or paint it. The stainless would be more resistant to rust and you would not have to finish it My stainless guns shoot good but some people prefer blued steel. I can,t recall ever spooking a deer since hunting with a stainless rifle for the last 8 years, but I suppose that it is possible if you were in direct sunlight. One difference that I have noticed is if I hunt on a drizzly wet day, I don,t feel the need to take my stock off at night when I come in from hunting, but I always took my stock off when I hunted with my older blued steel gun after a rainy hunt. I still wipe a lubricated rag over the outside surface even with a stainless rifle. They are more rust resistant but they can spot or tarnish if exposed to water or prolonged humidity.
