I have a Savage 110 7 mag that I have been thinking about making a custom build with. I personally have not needed a magnum for where I hunt and I want the experience of building my own rifle. It has an accutrigger that I plan to leave. My question is If I go to a 308 or 260 will I have any problems with the long action of the 7 magand the long magazine well. I know that I will need to change the bolt head for any change in caliber. Also I have never owned a 280 Remington. That would be my next choice. Would it be better to choose a long cartridge such as the 280, 270 or 30.06??
Thanks, Mike

Thanks, I have seen a lot of barrels offered in the short cased calibers. What about the 6.5 Creedmoore? How would it do as a deer caliber? The data that I read on it looks like it would be adequate but a little less energy compared to a 260 Rem. I have not talked to anyone that shot one yet .
