Savage MK II TR Yes or No?

Ok MSGO'ers, I am thinking about buying one, but just want to know if anybody has read or experienced any NEGATIVE feedback on this particular rifle. I know there are a lot of good reviews, but surely some bad somewhere. I'll take Pros an Cons just the same.

Re: Savage MK II TR Yes or No?

Never heard a single negative thing about savage period. I just got into mark II's myself about 2 months ago... i have 2 now. Neither is a tr, but the heavy barrel one will be getting some work done eventually... possibly even a tr stock. Both of mine, even the $50 pawn shop beater are insanely accurate... i havent even cleaned the beater one, just started shooting it. If i could have afforded it i would have just started with a tr.

The only con i have been able to find on the web, is apparently the wood around the action screw is relatively thin and if you torque the action screw past 20 or so pounds you can actually break the stock. Pretty sure I read a report about it on rimfire central. Didn't hurt my feelings though, when the money is there, i'll be buying the same rifle.

Both mine are synthetic stocks, wood ones are way too overweight to me. I see no point in a 22 weighing what a garand does. I think both of my markII combined weigh less than the .17 hmr savage i used to have.

I agree with SGF. I have both, the Kimber and the Savage MK II TR.

Pros - Very, very accurate rifle OTB.
Moderately priced
Magazine fed (5 or 10 round Mags available)

Cons - It only comes with one 5 round magazine

I love mine. I have only fired around 175 rounds includeing the rounds fired at the match the other day. I like it a little more with every round I fire.

Cons- it only comes with a 5 round mag

I did a little digging tonight, mainly looking at stuff on savages site. My fvxp has the same barrel as the tr, and the bolt handle is different. That and the stock are the only differences im finding right now.

Pretty sure that's the only differences randy.

The tr is sweet. Got a buddy with the 17hmr tr and a friend with the tr stock on his standard rifle he built up. The stock is the boyds tacticool stock I believe. If not its very similar. Feels great! If I buy one, it will be either a TR, ruger 77/22 or a CZ. Yall can keep the kimbers...

The TR also has a matte finish on the barrel and action

Those of you that have them, what did they cost? Where did you get it from?
I bought mine from Dicks in madison. The only reason I bought mine there was because they were the only place I could find it with a desert tan stock. I bought the last one they had. I got it on sale for $420 . There normal price was way to high it was $449. If I would have known you were interested in one you could have tried mine out the other day

The MKII TR and CZ 455 American seem to always come out on the top of .22lr comparisons on the internet searching. Accuracy reports also seem very similar. The CZ 455 is available locally for about $380........
