I'd vote for the 700. Son says he is going to get that remington 700 R5 (the only upside to being in nowhere is money only goes in the bank). Only reason I've been looking at 700's, haven't looked at the Savages much.

I have the 700 SPS Tactical and love it. The only drawback I would even mention is that it is probably a little heavier than the Savage. If I had it all to do over again I'd still buy the SPS. It shoots a whole lot better than I do.

I have shot the SPS Tactical AAC addition and really like it. I have also shot the Savage and really like it. They will both run out to 1000k with the right man behind the trigger. I like the ability to customize the savage. The barrel nut is really nice if you want to swap barrels. I really dont feel like you can go wrong either way. Both great guns.

I just went through the same process. I went with the Rem 700 SPS TACTICAL AAC-SD.
Everywhere I looked and talked to folks everyone was split between Savage and Remington. Most folks split on the ease of modifying the Savage yourself over having to get a gunsmith to do the Remington. Everyone agreed they are great shooters out of the box.
Remington was a little cheaper.
I wanted:
Bedded stock, didn't want to make this mod when the gun arrived.
Short heavy barrel, fully floated.
Adjustable trigger.
Matte finish.
Reputation for being a real good durable gun that shots well right out of the box.
Plenty of aftermarket support for modifications.

It was a plus the barrel came threaded. I will be getting a suppressor sooner or later (sooner than my wife thinks, later than I can stand it!).

Now that I have it...if you think you'll want the detachable box magazine go with the Savage. It will cost me around 350-400 to convert the Remy. This mod will put me more cash in the Remington than I would have spent on the Savage with similar configuration. However, I would have to change the Savage barrel or at least have the stock one threaded.

I am very pleased with the Remington. I believe I would be just as happy with the Savage.

By the way, I got a heck of a deal on it $574 plus tax.

I just picked up a Rem 700 SPS TACTICAL AAC-SD last week as well. Haven't done anything with it yet.... looking forward to having a long range shooter... My last experience with a Savage 308 was not good...but it was not the Tac model. I have 2 other Savages that I love, but I'll put my Rem700's up against them for accuracy any day. The Savage Accutrigger is great, and the factory recoil pad setup on the Savage is very soft...but IMO, the 700 is slightly more accurate....take "slightly" out beyond 300 yds, and it becomes "major".... But as I said, I haven't shot the new one yet, so cannot comment on the new Remy Xmark adjustable trigger....

You cant go wrong with either..

I use to not like Savage because all i knew was Rem 700.

Put the 300wm together with a factory savage 110 action and 112 barrel and it has gave me the best groups at 600 and 1000yds.

I have yet to work up a load for my Rem 700 AAC-SD but soon as i can afford another LRS scope ill be getting to work on it.

I so buy both and sell the one you dont like :D
