If I put a scope on my AR and get it sighted in, could I remove it for a time then put it back on (the weaver style mounts with finger screws) and have it still be reasonably close to zeroed?

I run a 3-9x40mm scope on my 16 inch AR-15 year round, cause anything up close I can point shoot out to 25 yards+ then go to the scope. Ask the guys at the last rifle side match after the USPSA match. I went first on Stage 1 and Stage 2 and after Stage 1, they were asking if I planned to have a seperate category for Optics versus iron Sights. Of course I had different categories but the scope made my hits so much faster and accurate even though the longest distance was maybe 80 yards. Scopes with a red dot mounted at 1 o'clock are very fast. On the close in targets, just point it like a stick and pull the trigger as fast as possible.

The reason I ask is I'm going to put a scope on my M4orgery, but I also want to be able to take it off and use the iron sights from time to time, as well as get a red dot scope. I'm wondering if the accuracy, especially with the telescopic scope, would be compromised int he process of taking it off periodically.

You won't be putting the scope back on the same every time. It'll be close but you'll have to sight it back in every time you take it off. Like he said his was an inch off after he remounted the scope.

I use the Larue LT104 QD mount on mine and find virtually no difference when I take that on and off. I will occasionally have to make an adjustment but not every time. I don't think the same can be accomplished with rings.

There are also some RTZ (return to zero) mounts from American Defense. You can see them all on one page here. Better prices can be had elsewhere. Just linking to this page for reference. I haven't used them, but lots of people on other forums say they return to zero when removed/replaced.

I have a cheap Wally world center line 4-16 Mildot with a promag quick detatch rings and mount (yes the mount was more than the scope) on my dpms ap4. I swap out with my eo-tech all the time. As long as I mount it back in the same place on the rail, the zero has been no more than 2 in off at 100 yds. Most of the time its stays zeroed after I take it off and put it back on.
