I had enough time in my shop during my Thanksgiving Weekend.... (NOT turkey day.... THANKSGIVING!!) to work on my Rolling Block.
This is a Swedish made Remington Rolling Block dated 1869 on the side plate. The Bannerman company screwed it up when they "sporterized" it and bored it out to 24 ga. CRAP!
SO, I figured it needed to be made back into a rifle. I got a 50 cal barrel liner from Brownells and chambered it to 50-70 gov. I had to rework the extractor so it would extract the 50-70 cartridges. After getting that done, it is once again a rifle... NOT A SHOTGUN.....

Here she is.......
The top one is my Sharps and the lower one is the newly dignified 50-70 Rolling Block.
Gun Firearm Rifle Shotgun Trigger

This is a shot of the extractor removing a case from the chamber.....
Bumper Auto part

now I have 2 new rifles to shoot!

What bullet dia. and powder are you using? I bought some sized .512 but they were undersize and tumbled. I now cast from pure lead and shoot them as cast.

The liner is 500" bore, .510" groove, 1-20" twist.
I have a mold but haven't checked the size yet. I am still in the "thinking about it" mode right now....LOL.
I am still in the "what powder to use" mode too. I have a LOT of Goex black powder... it is a mess to clean up but everyone says it shoots better that pyrodex and other stuff.

My .50-70 is a trapdoor. I've got a rolling block in .43 Spanish and a couple of .45-70 trapdoors.

Would love to get together one day and shoot black powder.

All of mine but one is a front stuffer though.

Speaking of which, I need to pick up a couple pounds of Goex when I can

Great job, Mike. To top it off, take it deer hunting and shoot a deer with it and take pictures.
Local hunter bags a buck with a Real Primitive Weapon. When I used to hunt with a smokepole; I always used Triple F blackpowder with 45, 50 and 54 caliber. I only remember one time that it failed to fire and I was stalk hunting during a rain. I think that a big drop of rain fell off my hat. Have fun.

You know, that's a good idea. I do need to shoot a deer with this rifle.
Most of my deer I killed were with my 58 cal flintlock. I always had more fun harvesting a deer with that rifle than anything. 70 grains of 3F and a .570 round ball.
Yep, rain does put a "damper" on your hunting trip when you shoot a flintlock. "Keep yer powder dry boys!"
