I've been thinking about getting a new rifle. Simply because I don't own one now. I'm leaning towards a T/C
Pro-Hunter in .300win or .308win. Then getting other barrels. I like the concept of one frame and multiple calibers to switch to. I know it's in the middle of the season. So caliber choices on the initial purchase are slim. But I can't stand to order & wait. And i'm thinking about going ahead and getting a .35whelen now then trying to find a .300 or .308 barrel later.
What is y'alls thoughts on the .35whelen in a Pro-Hunter? Are they still having problems with failure to fire? Or
is that only with the Handy Rifles?
Thanks!

I think the problem with misfire was only the Handi Rifles. Can't speak of the T/C, but I bought a CVA Scout in 35 Whelen Monday, sighted in to 200yds Tuesday, and killed an 8pt with it yesterday. So far I have really enjoyed the 35 Whelen. I'm shooting 200gr Corelokts right now, but will reload it in the spring. Even with the factory loads it shoots great. And recoil is nowhere as bad as people said. I think my 7mag kicks harder.

Also, I would have purchased the T/C if I would have had the money. Heard great things about the Pro Hunter.

A word of warning though, ammunition for the 35 whelen is very difficult to come by right now, even online and especially in 200gr. You can still find some 250gr. Good luck.

actually I don't think it's totally the Handi's fault to fire.I have a guy from work that bought one at the same time I did.He went tru almost 2 boxs of shells, with hit or miss results, some would fire some wouldn't.

He finally took his back and got a 444.Meanwhile the store owner and I talked about mine firing. So he gave me 2 boxs of shells from the same lot that my buddy bought,so I come home, grab the sled, put up a target and started pulling a trigger, out of 2 boxs only 1 fired. So I get a box of mine out of the closet, the whole box fired.I bought my ammo at the first of the year, the ammo my friend bought and that the store owner gave me,are all recently made within the last 4 months.

When I took all the fail to fire ammo back,I also brought some of my early year ammo, the store owner(Curtis) and I,looked at it pretty hard.We noticed that the primers on my ammo had a slightly higher primer than all the other stuff. So we are leaning more to faulty ammo than a bad rifle. But who knows,it could be bad rifles. All I do know is mine goes bang when it should and I LIKE it

Go ahead and get the 35 Whelen, you won't ever have to look back. I have a TC Encore Pro Hunter, shock stock, 28" comp fluted barrel. I love this critter. I shot Hornady, Nosler and reload ammo since day one and never had a misfire or fail to eject. I do full size the cases when reloading and never shoot "MAX" loads. Zero'ed at 200, about 3" high at 100. Drop Dead Ballistics are (I think) about 325 or so.

I would suggest looking at the CVA Apex with the 25" ss Bergara barrels. The rifle is significantly less that the TC's and is pretty much as they advertise for quality and accuracy. There's only one minor problem...finding one in ANY caliber!

I don't own the 35 (wish I did but can't find the darned Apex barrel anywhere) but from what others have said about it in this forum, it must be an awesome package! I do agree with your thinking...buy a shooting system rather than a single rifle...makes a bunch more sense these days, especially if you are a "one shot-one kill" kinda guy! :)
