Anyone know of any clubs or groups giving an RSO class anytime this year? The NRA website list a few clubs in Louisiana giving classes in the next few months but they're either a bit pricey or too far to drive.

Please note that the NRA RSO certification is NOT the same as CMP "Range Officer Training". NRA and CMP have apparently parted ways in more ways than one, not the least of which is in the National Matches at Camp Perry . . . so be sure you are getting the certification you want / need. I am certain both will be good training, but one may or may not substitute for the other. Then there are RSO certifications for some of the 3-gun and action pistol disciplines that are different as well, IIRC.

Our club is NRA affiliated and has had NRA RSO classes in the past, before I joined. We have been short on volunteers for different events recently and I would like to get the RSO certificate so I can start helping out more. I plan to get as much training as I can find relatively close and can afford. The CMP training would be on that list. But I really want an NRA RSO to start with. Many of our members are getting up in years and have been shouldering the brunt of the work. I feel it's time some of the younger members (if you call can 40 young) start picking up some of the load.

I am looking for the same thing .... We, at Magnolia R&PC, have been toying with offering the NRA Certification to our RSOs.

I actually just emailed Magnolia yesterday to inquire about this issue. I was mostly curious to know if a non club member would be allowed to attend any RSO class they might offer.

Greetings all! Capt not sure if we need to put it somewhere else but we can organize an RSO class at CRPC. We usually have 3 or 4 a year. I can get with our instructors and see what kinds of dates we can come up with. Then put a sign-up post somewhere! I will check with them today and try to get it back today.

I got mine a few years ago via correspondence course through the NRA. That may only be available if you're already an NRA certified instructor though, or it may be a discontinued program.

Found out yesterday that the class at CRPC is full. He is working on another one for late in the year.

I am interested. I might need something to do if I retire in the Spring.

So this thread is a tad old, but I thought It could use an update. Last weekend I was able to take the NRA Range Safety Officer class through my local gun club, Southwest Gun Club. This has been a long time coming and I was very pleased with the turnout. 12 students, all members save one. We're now just waiting on our packets so we can submit everything to the NRA in order to activate our credentials. This will really help out at the club by giving us more RSO certified members who can help during organized events. Should really help take some of the pressure off those few members who keep the wheels turning at SWGC. And with the way things are going, it may not be too long before being RSO certified is mandatory for club members. Insurance regulations are becoming draconian, or so I'm told. At any rate, for me, this is one more feather in my training cap. Next step is CRSO then I'm not sure. I'll probably wait a bit before trying out for CROS, but we could use few more of them in the club. Proper training and good experience is the key to being a well armed citizen, IMHO, and I'm out to get as much as possible so that I can help the next generation of gun owners.

Congrats Chris! I got my RSO certification 2 years ago at SWGC; just renewed it and my pistol instructor rating 2 weeks ago via the NRA instructor website. I'd like to upgrade to CRSO as well.

Well here’s the proof. NRA RSO Certified. Looks good tacked to the office wall. Next up, eventually, is CRSO and then we’ll see.

Is the NRA Pistol Instructor course offered in Mississippi? I would like to get some type of certification to teach a self defense /pistol course for Senior Citizens on my own property.
We had a Lady robbed in Meridian today in broad daylight, I think the nut even stole her car.
Since Obama took first office and continuing now in Trumps office, looking at the nightly news looks like something from South America. Thanks for any information.
