we've had issues this year at our camp with dogs running around on our place. We got em big time on the game camera's and several members have spoken to the owner.

One of them is a pretty good sized pit bull like dog...according to one of my members, the dog followed him several times to the deer stand during bow season and sat there growling at him.

The other day, its owner caught me coming out of the gate.

I went on "alert" as soon as I noticed he had a 9mm in a cross draw holster so I tried to at least keep the engine block between us.

The conversation goes like this

Neighbor: U seen my big whitedog with brown spot?...He don't hurt anyone...He roams

'Neck - Yeah

Neighbor - well He don't hurt anyone...He just roams...I can't keep him up

'Neck - my 308 "roams" as well

Neighbor - well I just can't do anything with him...we hunt over here to

'Neck - I suggest you find a way to keep your dog put up. We have 5 other members here who have paid good $ to hunt....what am I supposed to tell them when your dog ruins one of there hunts.? Just what would you have me do?

at that point the neighbor gets redfaced mad and stomps off

so with that background....if and when we see any more dogs on the place this year...

what would ya'll do?...let it ruin your hunting or take care of business and shut up.?

Notice that I did not tell that fella we was gonna "waste" his dog...but I did not tell him we would not either.

I'll add a poll for grins....It probably aint gonna change my mind or attitude any

I hate dogs running during deer season

my question is the dog roaming around or is he being turned loose to flush deer?

if the dogs are being turned out to flush deer then i think you know what to do..

second one i dont get to pissy about because a roaming dog actually helped me get one of the deer on my wall and became a family pet.... your call

If a dog comes on my property and growls at me... well thats like a human coming on my property and threating me.. Pow, no more threat..

If he cant keep it locked up then thats his fault.

My exgirlfriends parents had a problem with 2 pitbulls that roamed around. And with a few lil kids always outside playing that turns into a possible situation. We went to the owner several times and told them the concern. They shrugged it off like it was no problem.
Well after one of the dogs attempted to snap at one of the kids, they ran it off and i went hunting with the AR. After one of the dogs was taken care of the other one was never seen again. No more problems.

I love my dogs, and they stay at the house. They roam around our place but never cross the fence and know better. IF they go out and terrorize the neighbors, then they deserve to be put down.

Catch 'em and chain 'em - unless they try to bite / I will not let a dog bite me if I can stop it with any means possible.

Owner would have to come get 'em. If they did not, off to the pound they go.

Hot wieners may do the trick, a friend that lives in the middle of his 180 acres kept having the neighbor's mastiff come up and eat his dogs food. He put habanero peppers in a wiener and watched as the dog ran down his driveway chomping big wads of johnson grass on his way. He never saw him again.

take 2 steps and you are dead...I believe :affraid:

From the current poll results: I see ya'll are kinda thinking along the same lines I am

what I thought was really funny in this saga was this..

This guy stops me at my gate to the camp and basically says...Hey man...I know ya'll are deer hunters...and I know my dog is F'ing ya'll up...and even though He's a big dog and growls at ya'll...He's really nice...so please don't shoot em even though ya'll have thousands of dollars and many man hours of labor in your preparations...my dog is gonna mess up ya'lls hunting...but, I can't get off my ass to pen my dog up

Only in Ms...

I wouldn't poison a dog, just shoot him and get it over with. Won't tell you what I think of someone who poisons dogs unless you have poisoned one and want to know what I think of you. Not sure how quick timek takes to kill one or even if it just makes them sick.

Any dog has one time to growl at me on my land. Dogs running through our hunting lease is not so bad most of the time they push deer on to us but they could also run them away. But those are hunting dogs that run on to us from neighboring land. Doesn't happen all the time so no big deal. Now a house dog that doesn't do anything but roam all the time through our lease keeping game from bedding or feeding would be a problem. So with that being said... Problem growling house dog that never goes away = SSS.
Hunting dogs that are purposly turned out on our land to run the deer off us on to some one elses land could posibly = SSS.
Hunting dogs that chase/follow deer from God knows where on to us are just doing there job and will live another day.

If you've talked to the owner and the dogs is still on your land, pop him tween the eyes with a 22. I think most of us know how to make a hush puppy. Dog don't know the law, no point in making him suffer, swift and quiet. Don't forget the shovel.
