I have little TC Contender in 223 and I saw a adapter on Gunbroker.com that allows you to shoot 22lr and 22mag out of the 223 barrel. The adapter looks like a empty 223 shell that you load the lr or mag into to fire it.. I would imagine it is not the most accuarate process, but just wondered if anyone else had tried it.. It costs 30 bucks, might be worth trying.

Been a long time since I have shot a Contender but if I remember correctly it's firing pin on hammer flipped to the side so it would work on rimfires.

The Contender has 2 firing pins on it, so it should work... I have ordered it, so we shall see. If it works that will be great.. I have built this little gun for my son to start hunting with in a few years.. It has a 16" 223 barrell and a youth stock.. It is about 28" long total so it is very short.. I have been wanting to get a 22lr barrell for him to practice with.. But if this works that will be a great inexpensive way to let him practice a lot and get used to the gun..

Got them in. They are pretty simple and seem to work just fine.. You just have to rotate hammer to fire the rimfire.. I compared the diameter from the 22lr and 223 shells I had and they seemed to be the same??

It depends on the rifling twist. The wrong rifling twist will cause bad accuracy. Buy a Ruger 10/22.

I have a couple of 22s for shooting.. My intentions with this is to let my 5 yo start shooting the 22lr then the 22mag then step up to the 223.. I put this little gun togther with a 16" 223 barrell and a youth stock just for him to start deer hunting with in a few years.. But I want him to work up to it..

I shoot 22LR out of my ARs (5.56) all the time with a conversion kit .. uses the same upper and barrel. Shoots very well but not as accurate as a dedicated 22LR barrel. I measured some CCI and Winchester 22LR this afternoon after reading this post. They both measured .2225 ... Most .223/5.56 barrels like .224 or .225 bullets. the 22LR may be a couple .000 smaller than standard .223 ammo; thus the minor accuracy problem .. just my :2c:

Good info cap. I am not real worried about the accuracy. I want Hayden to start with something that fits him, doesn't kick and is not loud. Keep him from developing bad shooting habits. This should accomplish this and let him step up in caliber with the same rifle.
