I am shopping for a new 22 rifle to add to my collection (to use for F-class, amongst other things). I have thought about building off of a Ruger 10/22 Target, but I'm leaning more towards the Ruger 77/22 Target. I know everybody here loves their Kimbers, and they are priced great, they just don't appeal to me as much, and I've always loved the Ruger M77 rifles. Reading around people seem to suggest getting the M77/22 bedded is a wise modification. I'm open to other suggestions on rifles though, as well as any input on my current choice of the M77/22 Target. Thanks

Ive never shot a 77/22 so i have no clue about them.
I have a couple 10/22s and i use them for blasting and throwing it around on the farm.

I went with a savage mark II so i could suppress it, ended up shooting 10x better than i thought a 22 could ever do. And for $250 its hard to beat.
Id like to see what a 77/22 is capable of, might go check out rimfire central and do some reading now.

Another vote for the savage mark II here, even though i have had a 10/22 since i was 12 i like the savage as much if not more. Its definitely more accurate, and its one of the plain regular barrel guns not the the heavy barrel.

I had a 77/17 and liked the rifle but disliked the cartridge. Instead of trading it I should haave bought a 77/22 mag barrel. Out of the box the Savage or Kimber will have better triggers. The Kimber will be more accurate or at least have the most accuracy potential. If you want to tinker The Ruger in an easy platform. I'd try to get an older model with the slip-fit barrel rather than the newer threaded barrel model. I like to tinker and there are more options with the Ruger.

Look on Rimfire Central for other views.

Not interested in a hornet, thanks though.

I like to tinker on things, but I've never gone as far as to start modifying my guns save for stippling. Best I can tell, no matter what it is (Savage MKII or Ruger 77/22) people seem to recommend bedding them. The price of the Savage is very very tempting compared to the ruger though...Hmm...
