I didn't do nearly as well as I wanted to, but I did considerably better than I expected. The match consisted of 20 rounds offhand at 200 yards, 20 either seated or kneeling at 300, and a final 20 at 600 yards, any position. I have back and shoulder trouble, making prone position very uncomfortable, so I shot seated for the two longer stages. At 600 yards my first ten rounds went quite well, including a couple of shots in the X ring, but 12 through 20 were complete misses. I attribute this to fatigue (it was hot out there), combined with powder fouling and some very windy conditions. Best scores were at the 300-yard line.
But I finished, and that's what counts to me.
Rifle was a Shiloh Sharps Model 1874 in 45-90 caliber. Load was 86 grains of FFG over a .06" card wad with a Lyman "Postell" 535-grain bullet cast of 20 parts lead to one part tin, pan lubed with DGL and sized to .457 inch.
Counting the sighting rounds, I fired 75 times.
PS: Next Saturday is metallic silhouettes at 200, 300, 400 and 500 meters.
