Shout It Out!

Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth. Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.
Psalm 100:1 – 2

It’s called March Madness. Every year the top 64 teams in college basketball battle it out for the right to be called champions. As the field is whittled down from 64 to 16 to 8 to the “Final Four,” we are witnesses to runaway victories, last-second thrillers, overtime nail-biters and incredible come-from-behind wins. At last the final two teams compete — and only one emerges as the victor. As those last seconds tick off, the fans stream onto the court with shouts and cheers, celebrating the victory.

Do the mighty deeds of the Lord generate that kind of enthusiasm in you? Do you shout with joy when you recall the wondrous things he has done? Or do you calmly go about your business, barely giving him a thought?

Maybe you think you don’t have much to shout about. What about the Lord’s return? For he is coming soon. Tell everyone you meet about his amazing wonders. Proclaim the good news of his salvation every day. Make his name known to the nations, so they can bow down and worship him. “He comes, he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in his faithfulness” (Psalm 96:13).

Now is the time to sing a new song to the Lord. Leave behind the songs of bitterness and complaint. Bring out songs of glory and praise. Worship him for all of his splendor. Praise him for the wonders of his creation. Exalt his holy name to all the earth. Laugh and shout and sing, for he is coming soon. Rejoice!
