I knew it was a silly question. Is that state by state or federal? I thought I remember in my previous state that you needed to go to a dealer to transfer ownership even for private sales? But I might have been mistaken.

that might be something that varies from state to state, but if i'm not mistaken, FFL=Federal Firearms License, so it would be federal

I've never done a bill of sale on any that I've bought or sold in FTF transactions. I do keep a detailed inventory that shows the date I buy or sell one.

a BoS is obviously not necessary, or required in MS, but if it were me, and I dont really sell my guns, I'd just print off a generic one and have the other person sign it, and make them a copy. Just in case you get a knock on your door one night and the cops want to know why the gun that was originally sold to you was used in a homicide the night before.

I have another opinion about non-documented gun sales. If I'm selling a gun, I usually offer to do whatever makes the purchaser happy. If they want a bill of sale, I'll gladly provide it to them, complete with my address and phone number. When I'm buying a gun, I want absolutely nothing. I'll gladly provide a quick look at my drivers license, so he knows it's a legal purchase, but I'd just as soon he forgot who I was as quickly as it usually happens. If I buy a gun, it isn't gonna be used nefariously, but I still desire no paperwork at all. If I want paperwork, I'll buy from a dealer. I have nothing to hide, but when they come around to collect our guns, I'd like to have a few they don't know about.

About half my guns are dealer purchases, which is OK, but the other half should be known to no one but me. When the collection comes, I don't intend to be the only one without one. I also stockpile ammo every chance I get. Can't be too careful.:)

I like living in this state because I still have the freedom to do some things as I please and for one, I like the cash and carry private sale option. It's mine and I want to be able to do with it as I please. I don't sell often and if someone doesn't appear to be the sort of person I want to sell to then I don't. All sellers reserve that right and there are some people I've seen that I wouldn't buy a gun from. As far as someone showing up at the door wanting to know about a gun I previously owned being used in a crime... I Sold It! Nothing more I can say and there's nothing illegal about that. I'd really rather not know any more than that and especially since it could have been sold again since then, I don't need to know any more.

As far as a BoS is concerned, I've never really cared for them in a private sale. As I mentioned earlier, since the person you sell to can sell again with no recored keeping, it's sort of a moot point. The most I'm going to provide is maybe my name, address and phone number which is all readily available to anyone. I have actually had a couple of instances where someone wanted my DL and/or SS number and I was polite but firm in saying absolutely not. I'm not leaving that information with anyone. I do like doing personal business with other CC holders since seeing that's a background check in and of itself but normally I just rely on my own judgement about selling to an individual and think nothing of it after it's done. :2c:

That is an '10 Crossbone Build, did that for a guy out of Cali, I am riding an '08 Crossbone now different style Blue and Black instead of Red laced double spring leather all around. Traded flash for power, put in a 110, big sucker, and VHSS, blows rice burners out of the water.
