Guys,

I thinking about buying a 1911 Springfield TRP but was wanting to get some feed back on the weapon first. Has anybody every shot one or owns one. I would love to get the pro but do not want to spend the extra grand.

Thanks,

I would seriously look into a Dan Wesson Heritage before a TRP. The Heritage is less money and has all tool steel parts no MIM like the TRP. If you want to go up about $100 look at the Dan Wesson Valor. To me it is the best bang for the buck as far as 1911s go.

Hmmm you seem to know about the DW 1911's. I have been casually looking at 1911's as my next purchase, but I just cant seem figure out why some cost thousands while others are sub -$500. I would be very pleased to get a DW 1911, but are they really worth twice a Rock Island, or 1.5 times a Springfield?

I would say there is alot of difference. I am lucky enough to be able to afford some really nice 1911s. I have a Baer TRS and Custom Carry, a DW Heritage and a Guardian on the way, and a Kimber Custom II. I might get flamed for this but I would stay away from Kimber, for the money there are better 1911s out there. For the price point and what you get a DW is, in my opinion, the best. You get quality tool steel parts and no MIM. Some say MIM is just as good, well I pay a little more for quality. Now thats not saying some of the lower guns arent as good. Rocks, SA Mil spec, GI, and Loaded are all great guns. I would rather pony up a little more and buy a DW. I bought mine used for around $900 shipped. Yeah it came with an idiot mark from the previous owner but runs like a scalded ape. PM me if you have any questions about 1911s. Btw the Kimber is being sold and my TRS and CC are getting refinished right now. That is the one bad thing about Baers, the bluing wears fast and sucks if you carry it alot. Here is a pic of my DW Heritage.

Ive got a trp. I love it, it feeds anything I've put in it including empty cases. IMO to get the equal in DW you'd have to go with the valor. Matt I'm getting my membership(soon) at mr&pc you can shoot mine.

Are Dan Wesson 1911's still made by Rock Island(Armscor), they were when they first started selling DW 1911's?

maybe thats why everyone swears by them???? cuz i've never heard a bad word about a ria
Uh. I dont know if RIA ever made DWs. Bob Serva, who now owns Fusion Firearms, was the guy behind DW 1911s for a while. Now that CZ has bought them out Keith Lawton runs the show. DWs are made at for and by DW guys in NY. CZ is the parent company but DW is kinda separate in itself.

I would also disagree to a certain extent that the TRP is not equal to the Heritage. I would say it is to the Heritages before 2010. Im not going to get in a pissing contest and dont want to come across the wrong way. Just my personal observations of the new 2010 Heritages. Where else can you get a Forged Framed, all tool steel parts gun, with match barrel for $1200. Yes it only comes in SS, which some might not like, but what goes into these guns are top of the line parts.

IMHO you cant go wrong with either. Even though I am a springfield "fan" I wouldnt opt for one over the other (especially if "both" was an option). Dan Wesson makes some damn fine 1911s...but then again so does Springfield.

Since when did TRPs have MIM parts? someone has been misinformed. ...and it could very well be me but I was under the impression that they used machined parts.

Every Springfield has MIM except for maybe the Professional and I think it does. The reason I say except for the Professional is because I havent been able to get my hands on one. I know without a doubt that the TRP has some MIM parts. If I remember correctly the hammer, sear, slide stop, firing pin stop, and maybe the safety. Though the argument of Springfield having MIM is kinda mute because it has a lifetime factory warranty. If it breaks they will fix it. I just chose the Heritage because it was cheaper and didnt have MIM parts.
