I have an old Springfield Savage 120A that is in pretty good shape. Only problem with it is, the barrel and action assembly is loose in the stock. It has one large screw holding the stock on. I have tightened the screw as far as it will go, and even went so far as putting a rubber washer on it to help, but it has not. Anybody got any other ideas on how to tighten it up?

Could you get some soft metal "sleeves" to go around the bolt. You could get copper at just about any thickness. If you can't wrap it all together because of slots and such, get a harder metal. When you get a good spot, drill a tiny hole and run a very short pen in there and hammer it flat like a nail head. Take you a dremel tool to make the ends round off and the excess off the pen. May take a heavier oil that would attract more dirt but it would help. Just an idea, let me know if it works. What't the distance between the breach lock and the back.

If you can,t get the screw to tighten it up, you might could do some bedding in the stock with either stock bedding epoxy or J-B weld to make the gun fit tighter in the stock. If you study the inside of the stock and see how it sits in the stock, there may be a few contact points that you could build up a little.I spent 2 hours sanding inside of the rear butt stock of an old Marlin 39A today, that is what you have to do if you get it to fit too tight.LOL You can fix it.
