Stainless chips

I’ve been eyeing the southern shine stainless chips but wasn’t really thrilled over the price of them. So I went and searched out folks that actually make them. I successfully did so and had to buy 20# to get a “Deal” on them. I’m hoping these are more aggressive than the stainless pins I’ve had. While the pins were great for cleaning......I’m looking for something faster, that’s the idea behind the desire for the chips.
I’m starting this post as kind of a record of what I find with them and how well they work or do not.
For those that don’t know WTH I’m talking about........here’s some pictures.

1 1/8 oz of them in a 12 gauge and you would have something.
Get behind me satan!:groan:

And you say I’m a bad influence! Lol

LOL, just saying. They look like they are cut off barb wire barbs.
You definitely have the wheels turning now. I have plans for different kind of shells in the future so it would not be out of the question to pack a hull with some.

If they do an exceptional job, are you going to share your source, or will you become our source for the chips.
I’ll more than likely share it. Some of the other offerings have some regular steel within the pins and you have to wash the pins a few times to get it out.
These are said not to have that issue. Time will tell.

When you load them be sure to have plastic between them and the barrel...don't think they would do your favorite shotgun barrel any favors.
o_O Yep. It’s not my original intent for them I assure you. I also know how to load shells for the most part ;)
I have a feeling that with such odd projectile......range will be in feet measured in teens.

In the quantity I ordered......it was half price.

Ha, they might surprise you loaded in a shot cup. But even then I wouldn't expect over around 20 yards tops if that.
The odd shape will have that stuff go all over the place once it hits air. It’ll take a stiff cup with no slits to make any range.

Maybe a glacier style round. Pins in wax or jello type substance to hold it together till it hits?
You are straight up diabolical! Lol

They came in today! They are huge too. Didn’t realize they would be quite this big compared to the other guys. They dwarf the other type stuff “hugely” lol

I bet they work well on the outside of the cases but I doubt they’d get down in a 223 case really well. Doubt they’d pack in and bunch up like the pins as well. Dang sure won’t pack in and stick in a flash hole.

testing tomorrow on some 223 cases.

Let us know when you test them in 12ga hulls, they look perfect for that.
You know......I have never cleaned any! I usually just buy new hulls for my gourmet rounds.......I just stuff the bird shot lol

They’re definitely an upgrade to the pins and definitely better than the stainless grit. I like them.
After one hour of running. Some of this brass was super nasty.

This is what fell out of two cases. Out of 10 that I picked up out of the bucket I averaged around 4 pins inside each case.

Separating them from the cases was a breeze. A minute of spinning had them come right out.

I’m running a third load now.

Man those look really nice. I'm going to have to get busy converting that treadmill, LOL.
Or......build a tumbler. Absolutely nothing to it. Reference my build tread. Use the treadmill to work that heart!
