What's the low down on Stoeger shotguns? I was looking at their Condor Competition for Clay shooting, and wondered where they would be "inferior" as compared to a ruger red label or a Citori. 600$ MSRP is hard to beat versus 1200$ if they are worth it. Thanks

i only have experience w/ the coach gun line. I personally LOVE mine! I just wanted a quality SxS, and thats what i got! its not really the same as an o/u like the Condor line, but that is my experience w/ stoeger.

I can't get this post to stay. I think you're paying for that Ruger and Browning name and finish. Plus the "Red Label & Citori" on the side.
Reason I say that is I been wanting a stoeger 20 gauge coach gun and they seem very well made.

Mine is the nickel model in 12ga. It's a well built gun. The only thing I don't like about it is after closing it up with new shells the safety resets itself. Which I guess is a good thing, as long as you practice with it its not bad at all. If mine in 12 is good I'm sure one in 20 should be more than fine! I want a .410 model now actually.

Not to side track the OP, but I've been considering the same SXS 12 gauge Stoeger coach. Everything I read says they are good guns. They make one ("Supreme" as I recall) with chokes.

I have read that you can easily stop the automatic safety resetting by grinding a little off some reset rod that pushes the safety when you close the action. If you do it, though, you have to be more careful.

I have personal experience with a Stoeger Condor. Wood quality, metal finish and wood to metal fit was not on par with my Ruger. I shot the Stoeger better as it fit me better. I don't have either now but would buy the Stoeger if I were in the market.

I went in to Dad's Super Pawn Friday to look at a Stoeger O/U, but ended up being dazzled by the fit and finish of a Franchi Renaissance.

I could still possibly end up with a Stoeger side by side for a rabbit gun.

I bought a coach gun around 1995 and it has held up very well. I haven't shot it a lot but the fit and finish is very nice. I wish I had one with the chokes but I have no planns to get rid of the one I have. I've actually thought about one of the rabbit ear Remington Spartan SxS with the screw in chokes.

I found out something about the stoeger side by sides the other day researching an old 410 I inherited, they are made by a brazillian company called boito. The designs appear to be identical to my 410, while I don't know it's actual age I do know it's at least 45 years old. It's held up well, especially considering what I put it through when I was younger. Now I want a stoeger side by side 12 to match it.

I had a stoeger Condor Competition for a good while. I sold it a little while back. I shot a considerable amount of trap with it and it was a good gun. No misfires, although the ejectors did tend to miss every now and again. The gun handles well and balances well enough. Is this gun a ruger or browning? Obviously not but its a fraction of their price. There is no aesthetics that will bring up the price of this gun, but its got most of the features that you would want in a clays gun. If you want any more specifics just let me know.

well i used to be a benelli dealer and stoeger is part of their lineup... we never sold any sxs's but their O/U was complete crap. most of them had extractors not ejectors.. at the time only the trap/comp model had ejectors. i sent one guys back to the factory 3 times for the same issue. after the last trip back they said dont send it back again... to each his own but i really like Zoli's
