CLP for rust prevention. About ten years ago Gun Test magazine pitted, (pun intended), a number of oils, lubricants, and rust preventers in a head to head test.
A strip of unpainted metal cleaned and then hit with a wire brush. It was treated with a swipe of each product tested. After several months of exposure to the elements to include simulated salt water spray, CLP was the clear winner.
I don't especially care for CLP as a lubricant or cleaner, but after seeing the results, I feel it's excellent at protecting metal from rust. I've got long guns I haven't shot in many years that I applied a heavy dose of CLP and stuck in the back of a gun safe. Year's later there's no sign of rust but I am in a very low humidity climate.
I store almost all of my guns inside a silicone impregnated gun sock to prevent the small nicks and scratches from moving them around my gun safes. They run about five bucks from WalMart. It's possible they'll help prevent rust but that's not why I use them. At any rate, I'd never leave them inside a padded gun case. I had a M1100 freckle with rust spots when I left it stored in what thought was a dry, padded case. It's a pure upland game gun and I've hunted hard with this gun. Still, I hated to see the rust.
If you've got some neat stuff, you can ship them to me for preservation in our dry desert climate.
