Has anyone used a MMC stripped lower for a new build. I was thinking about getting one at the next gun show in Jackson. I have reading reviews on the Internet and cannot find anything good about them.
Does anyone know of another brand that might be sold at the gun show? This is my first complete build and want it to be good but not expensive.

Call Mike Smith at Smith's Speed Shop in Purvis, or PM him here. He's at all the shows, has a variety of brands available, fair prices.

+1 on Mike. He's a good guy to deal with.

You might also check out this topic in the "For Sale" Section. Several of our members bought these lowers on the last group buy and they got great accolades unless you happen to be set on a metal lower. It's just a thought...

Thanks for the info. I had thought about a Plumcrazy lower, but was going to do a build on 7.62x39 and don't know if that lower would be strong enough. Might go to the show in Hattiesburg this month and see if I can find on for around $100.00.
I have found several on the Internet, but I have never done a FFL transfer.

The transfers really aren't a problem and there are some guys on the forum who would be glad to help you with that. I have given thought to a 7.62x39 AR but most of what I've read indicates that it can be fairly troublesome. I think most of the issues are magazine related but I decided to let the 7.62x39 role be filled with an AK, an SKS and a Ruger Mini-30. Is there a particular reason you're wanting to build with that caliber?

I see. I know that C-Products manufactures magazines for the 7.62x39 and they are supposed to be the best. Unfortunately, I still read a lot of accounts where folks were having problems with their combinations of ammo and magazines. The best results seemed to be from folks who developed hand loads that were fairly reliable. Are you planning to build the upper or just purchase a complete one from someone like Del-Ton? Just curious also if you've looked at the 6.5 and 6.8?

Plan on building from scratch. I have all the tools needed. I changed the upper on a Bushmaster Carbon 15 that I bought right after Christmas. I have looked at the 6.5 and 6.8 but the ammo cost too much. I may just change my mind and build one with a 5.56 bull barrel. Will look into the problem with 7.62.
I want to thank you for the replies.

SOG has the brass cased yugo ammo for $199 a case 1250 rounds plus shipping. Its their Shot Show Special. If it had been reloadable it would have been a real bargain, but can't have everything.

AR's run better with the brass case ammo imo.

Add the C-Products mag's mentioned above and your gtg.

I did add the extra power extractor spring [Wolff Gunsprings] to mine.

You can find multi cal lowers now so it won't be marked 5.56. Just a nice touch to build. Several makers have them so price shop as they run the same as 5.56 marked.

Have fun with the build.

Why not go with a SKS if you're wanting a 7.62x39? It's quite possibly the most reliable auto rifle ever made and it will save you a but load of money. Maybe reserve your AR build for a less problematic caliber.

Well after reading all the return post I think I will change my build to another 5.56 with a bull barrel. I have a H&R 45/70 Handi Rifle and a Ruger Super Redhawk .454 that I can do the hunting with.
I have a brother in law that has a SKS that I may be able to get cheap.
Again thanks for the post and guiding me in the right direction, fairly new at this AR stuff. The bug has bitten HARD!!

Me and a buddy ordered our stripped lowers from Essential Arms and had them shipped to a local dealer. You can transfer up to three on a single transfer. I have used them for two different builds and they have been great. The tough coat finish is really nice and everything is in specs. A stripped tough coat finish lower is only $88!

YMMV.

I don't think anyone on this forum knows me personally. I am overwhelmed with the kindness and advice that I have gotten.
I just hope that one day I can return all this in someway.
May God bless each and everyone here.

If you're looking for a really good buy on a lower receiver you might check out this deal at Aim Surplus.

http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=F1SASL&name=Surplus+Arms+%26+Ammo+LOW15+Stripped+AR+Lower+Receiver&groupid=214

I've never used that particular manufacturer's lower but $59.95 is an unbelievable price! As of this posting Aim had 126 units in stock. Good luck!

ETA: I also really like the pictograph "fire / safe" designations on that lower. It's the same as on my Sun Devil which cost significantly more.
