After watching a friend purchase a $30 hiking pole, I decided that I could make one for a lot cheaper and make it more functional than a simple stick.

Here's my plan: 4 PVC sections around 12-14 inches in length (varies according to height of user). Each section is a different kit; fire kit, fishing kit, first aid kit, and random kit.

I've seen several online that are in 2 or 3 pieces but I like the 4 piece pole better. It will not only allow me to break it down and carry individual sections, but it makes it a lot easier to get stuff our and put stuff into the tubes.

If you've made something similar to this or know anyone that has, I'd love to hear some feedback and any adjustments. Here are a couple pics of similar kits.

That's easy, cut a piece of plastic to go inside of each coupling and that will seperate the sections. As far as the bending goes, there will be enough support throughout the stick with the couplings, as long as no section is over 16 inches.

Thanks for the info. One thing you might add is some paracord wrapped around it. Big D suggested that when I got a knife off him. Good for making a lean to your outback hicking stick. Also add one of those ball shapped compass. Just thinking to myself.

There will be that and much more in the sections. I will post pics when I'm done and I will inventory the contents. I'm sure there will be many suggestions as to what to add or take away from the apparatus.

The survival hiking stick got lost in the shuffle over the past few weeks, but it's still going to happen. During that time, I've been thinking about the weight of the stick and how I can improve the design. Considering making the bottom section of something a little heavier and with an attachable blade... any ideas?

94LEVER, my old man would pop you with whatever was handy. But I'd take some PVC pipe over one of those big rights that'd ring your bell. Where was child protection when I got a beatin' whenever I needed it? But child protection and absent fathers are the reason we are where we are with kids. Heck, I'd take one of his belt a$$ whoppin's for one more day with him. When we got it, we deserved it.
