Anybody buying any goodies this weekend (2A tax holiday)? Stopped by Gary's (Columbus) this morning around 10am to replenish the ammo I've burned in the last year :). Not as crowded as it has been in past years, but still more folks than usual in the place. In and out in about 10 minutes, including some small talk with a couple folks.

How about other shops? Big crowds or not?

Can't swing it this month or I'd consider it. Plus most places don't actually have any special pricing going on aside from the tax holiday.

I despise and oppose taxation of all kinds, but I'd rather pay the extra 7% than deal with the crowds trying to save $20. The only way it makes sense is buying large quantities or big ticket items where you actually save a significant amount.

:yeah: I agree with Jake and Caleb if the dealers aren't discounting stuff not really worth the effort. But might go to gunshow just to laugh at folks "saving" $20 for overprice guns.

Wife talked me into going to Chinamart with her this morning. Go blundering thru sporting goods at 7:30 and there is a 700 ADL .243 youth combo (have never seen one at the McComb store)
I know the scope is cheap, but got it, a pretty decent Uncle Mike's sling and a set of UM QD swivels for $399 OTD because of no tax.
They didn't have any of the bullets I wanted though. Did have several kinds of 22 LR on the shelf.

Middle daughter is happy that she now has her own .243, so win-win situation.

In talking to the cashier, seems most coming thru do NOT know it 2A tax free weekend.

Oh and the only time I have ever been to CM with only 7 cars in the parking lot!

LOL, someone else that calls it Chinamart. Grandson used to argue with me whe I would call it that.

Good deal on the .243 and glad your daughter is the proud owner of it.

Just bought 3 boxes of .40S&W 180-gr. FMJ at Academy Sports yesterday.

I saved ~$4 bucks. Whoopie!

A couple of folks at the gun counter cases, but not many were around the ammo aisle.

It's end of month, so I'm cash poor.

Most of what I buy/save 2A-wise is internet anyway, which I declare on my MS taxes, of course.

Called around trying to find a Taurus 66SS4 .357 revolver and couldn't find one. If it were raining diamonds I would only get hit with bricks.

Thanks, but I don't do Internet gun sales. I'll have my local shop order one and if there is a problem with the firearm upon receipt I'll let the shop and his supplier hash it out. Revelations Armaments in Amory is about $380ish and Gary's is asking $399. Driving to each of these places twice to order and then pickup would negate any taxes not paid in gas burned. I'm in no hurry.

Good to know, I'm thinking hard about ordering a rifle I want from Buds in the next week or so.
Ordered my firearm late Wednesday last week; auto acknowledged. VERY decent price, even w/CC.
"Order processed" by Bud's on Thursday and Friday. No weekend activity.
Shipped FedEx on Monday.
At my local MS FFL on Wednesday. My FFL has a real day job, so I picked it up from him on Friday.

We're only talking ~Lexington KY to MS though ...

Drives me crazy when I order a gun and it sits at the Jackson UPS terminal over the weekend.

Agree.

It drives me crazy when my order is at my FFL and it takes me 1-2 days to pick it up -- but I try to understand that he has a real job (and home life) too.

I'm not loyal to Bud's particularly (it was my first purchase), but they have a great selection and VERY decent prices, free shipping. So does gunbuyer.com though.

Wow, major deals in Philly and Meridian. Stores were packed, swamped even. I bought a new Colt AR-22 & extra mags, a used Talo exclusive Ruger Blackhawk stainless 3.5 inch barrel with black laminate grips, an older (1999) polished stainless "original" Vacquero in 45 long colt with 5.5 inch barrel, an old S&W 645, a case of 20 gauge Rio shells for busting clay birds, a basic black Taurus judge 3" barrell, several boxes of 410 shells, some Hornady 44 special, some 41 magnum, some 10mm. I had to really restrain myself from buying another S&W 5906 for $350 ( I already have one).

Pretty much cleaned them out.:):):):) HAPPY JACK !!!

PhillipD's dueling tree will be ringing tomorrow.

The wheeling & dealing on used guns was amazing, I almost went back a third time to buy more. One business had pizza's delivered but still nobody had a chance to get a slice.

Bud's is "good to go"... but I do like the established brick & mortar FFL gunstores, however. Especially when buying "pre-owned" firearms and the sometimes nice deals offered.

That said, when you don't have any such gunstores in reasonable proximity, then Bud's offerings become even more attractive.

Here's the thing with buying from the internet and retailers like Bud's... once your receiving FFL has it, get that gun in your mitts with your own eyes on it before you put any ink on that 4473 form. If it ain't right to your 100% satisfaction, then that's the time (and the only opportunity) to send it back. Once your "John Hancock" is on the 4473, you own that gun... and sending it back then is an entirely different deal.

If you buy a gun from a brick and mortar store around here, and have a problem with it, it's not between you and who you bought it from, it's you and the manufacturer. Not much service after the sale. Most places here are like that, can't say they all are. But, competition sometimes brings better prices, I always at least look over gun broker, the same gun usually has a wide range of prices.

GunBroker and Facebook are the same, very unreliable scope of prices for a firearm. I usually check one or two places like Buds to get a ideal of what a gun is worth.
