Back 20 years ago when I went hunting with a muzzleloader you had to pour the powder down the barrel, then stuff the primer, then jab a ball down the barrel. If you were lucky the cap would ignite the powder pretty soon after you pulled the trigger. I just got a new ******* muzzleloader. I found out we can use a .35 Whelen and call it a primitive weapon. As bad a shot as I am it is pretty easy to group 3 consecutive shots in a 2" circle at 100 yards. I love my new primitive weapon!

....been wondering about these. Seems like cheating, but I ain't above that when it comes to eating.

I do remember helping a friend build a muzzleloader back in the early 80's.

:lol4:
That's the doggone truth. I remember it like lighting a fuse. A few fizzes and crackles later, something would go boom.

I'm only 25 but I remember my first smokepole kill was when I was 9. It wasa percussion cap cva with open sights because back then you couldnt even use a magnified scope, now before long we will probably have less restrictions,

I don't mind at all though, its a lot easier with the new laws

I'd luv to have a Prohunter in 35 Whelen...

when hunting season is over and they collect dust on the shelves during income tax time...then I'll pounce
My buddy just bought a 35 Whelen for his TC Endeavor. It will shoot moa with factory 200gr ammo. Will have one for my Pro Hunter by next season.

I'm not sure if I will shoot anything else around here now. Very seldom would I need to shoot over 200 yrds and the bullet has no drop at 200. I love the short 24 in barrell especially in the shooting house. Haven't had a shot at a deer yet but so far I love it.

I can remember when you needed a suitcase to carry everything you needed with a muzzle loader. Then you just hoped it would fire when it was supposed to!
I hunt with a Handi Rifle in 45-70 and it sure is simpler.

I will be happy when they add 45lc or 38 to the list, would love to primitive hunt with a 45lc singleshot or lever since I have a fubar'd shoulder.
From the way I understand the law, it's "single shot, breech loading, cartridge rifles(.35 caliber or larger)". That covers 45lc or 38 don't it?
