Ok, a little scenario game to get the brain rolling.

Scenario:
A massive hurricane, one more powerful than Katrina, has made landfall on the Gulf Coast. The huge powerful storm maintained major destructive power all the way up to Central Mississippi. Coastal MS/AL/LA is completely devastated. Most infrastructure as far north as Jackson is completely non-functional.

At the same time, a major quake has occurred on the New Madrid fault. Memphis and Little Rock have sunk into chaos (more than normally exists there anyway) and the destruction is felt as far away as Saint Louis.

The state government of Mississippi and the LEO's are doing their best to maintain order, but the scope of the disaster has limited them to primarily search and rescue duties.

You can choose 4 and only 4 firearms with which to equip yourself...2 long guns and 2 handguns. They don't have to be firearms you currently own, but they should be something that is reasonable to acquire (i.e. - you can't pick a General Electric XM214 Minigun). You already possess 500 rounds of ammunition for each weapon, but any additional ammunition will have to be acquired (through whatever means works).

What would you choose and why?

long guns
Remington 870 pump with pistol grip, 2 or 3 round mag extension and 18-20" barrel. why? scattergun with slug capability. nuff said

AR 15 in 223, accurate, reliable, and ample ammo availablity. mags fairly easy to secure.

handguns
5" 1911 springfield - 8 round mags. why? 45. DUH!

and to stay true to my personality... maybe a 357 or 44 wheel gun with 4" barrel. accurate enough to hunt with for food and plenty of punch to serve as a backup

Id choose my AR just cause 500rd of ammo isnt all that heavy to carry.
Ruger 44 Carbine, why not have a 44mag when you might need some extra umph :D
XD .40 for anything too close for comfort
Ruger 22/45 with suppressor, nobody will ever hear you..

IF i could carry one more it would be my 300wm, hands down. if i can see them, i can hit them.

1: Glock 17 9mm
2: Glock 22 40S&W
3: M4 .223 (w/fun switch and optics)
4: Rem 700 .308 Marine Sniper Rifle w/optics

Reasoning: A huge amount of the population has a Glock in either 9 or 40 and many LE Agencies have them as well, so MAGS and ammo should be easy to come by ITSHTF. The M4 b/c .223 is light for carrying and can reach a good distance if needed and auto for clearing an area fast. The M700 to clear targets from afar and I'll be looking for fellow member to build a TEAM with b/c numbers will have an advantage over "the one man army".

If another weapon was to be aquired it would be an AK47 for ammo aval. and destructiveness at close range.

I like it! Not only thinking ammo availability, but mags as well.

The acquired AK was not a 5th gun I was thinking about, It was if I lost/damaged/no more ammo kinda thought. I don't want to carry around an anchor so to speak. I'd look for ammo first, the acquire an AK if one was available to replace one of the 4. Sorry I didn't convey the message very well. My bad................
Glock Mags will be plentiful you can be assured of that and I will be grabbing all I can tote.

Joe, One day you will awake and relize Glocks are what you should count on in the end cause they will be there still going boom everytime....LOL.....

Marlin 22lr Papoose -
for my wife and collecting small game for food

S&W 357 -
for my close quarter and last resort protection

S&W AR-15 -
for my offensive assault capabilities and defense against large numbers

300Win Mag -
for my ability to snipe any harrasing enemy keeping him at a distance, causing him to consider retreat, or for punishing him for doing harm to anyone I know and also for collecting big game for food.

1. Ruger 10/22; I can feed myself without making too much noise

2. AR-15 (manufacturer isn't important); There should be plenty of mags, ammo, and replacement parts laying around. Even if I'm outgunned there's still the intimidation factor. I can put a lot of lead down range and give the illusion that I have plenty of back up.

3. Glock 17L; Chosen for the same reasons as the AR-15 plus it's one badazz combat pistol.

4. Rem 870 12ga; Barrel length doesn't matter. I'll just saw it off to 12 or 14 inches. I don't figure the ATF will be too concerned with one shotgun in the middle of such a disaster. There should also be plenty of ammo to be had.

Not sure I am much of a survivalist... probably stick with what I KNOW.. as opposed to trying to figure something else out

1. 12ga auto.. Rem : Reason, ammo erverywhere, wife can use it... perfect "keep your distance gun"

2. 7mm hunting rifle.. cause we have it.. common caliber.. scoped ready for deer or stray cow

3. .357 revolver .. powerful, easy, NEVER jams.. ammo everywhere holster it and never worry

4. not needed.. some 15 round auto bigger than 9mm... scares cats and dogs.. can I have an Old school Mac 10?

lol just couldnt resist man! :D

as for the 22 "for small game etc"... a snare, blow gun, or bow and arrow would work just as good for me for that. and talk about quiet! if it came down to it, i dont think i would worry about a 22 cal just for that reason. i would want as much substantial firepower as i could acquire... not knocking your choices or reasoning. just making conversation. ;D

and my wife can handle a 357 (with 38s in it) and a 12 ga just fine.

will stick with what i have.
remington 870 w/ knox stock (my current turkey gun) w/ rail & eotech
Colt LTW commander bobtailed 45acp
jframe s&w revolver
would probably go w/ my 300 win mag- hard thought but my thinking is if it got that bad you would be able to find a few ar-15 lying next to someone in the street--- or as a result of a 30 cal bullet fired from way off.

and plenty of my E Martin & D Phillips knives tucked in boots, on belts and where ever else i can hide them.

Ar-15 in 5.56 along with the 22LR conversion kit ...

870 Marine Magumum

Glock 22 with 9mm conversion

Only need three guns (but this converts into 5 guns if needed) -- the extra weight of the 4th will be devoted to ammo!!

You are all wrong.

Remember Katrina? In a disaster, we won't have any guns since the police and the NG will be around door to door to confiscate our firearms. Anyone refusing to hand over a gun runs the risk of being jailed or even shot. That is their first order of business these days in a declared state of emergency. Gotta love todays US... land of the free... :( ...it just doesn't apply anymore.

Good Luck! I'm haulin' ass up north with my family, pets, and ALL my firearms if another disaster strikes. I learned all I need to know from Katrina. (we nearly died, tree through house) Pack and run while you still have gasoline and freedom!!

ETA
To clarify, this is my home and I would be back as soon as things calmed down. If I didn't have a family, I would probably stay and help. However, I have to protect my children first above all else. I was very mad at myself for staying through Katrina and endangering all of our lives. I won't make that mistake twice.

Speaking of that,, Few days after katrina people started running out of food and stuff.. had people goin around stealing gas and generators at gun point. I kept my AR on my 4wheeler since thats what i used goin around the community on pulling a trailer. People went crazy when they ran out of their food after their EBT card stop working.
