Well the excitement starts early in the whetto tonight!

My roommate just busted in the door yelling that someone was in the backyard. When her and her fiance pulled in she saw him just standing on the back porch and he took off. So her fiance took off after him and I grabbed my 40 and flipped on the rail light and went and checked everything out since her fiance was already back there looking.

The guy got away. Our backyard connects with a alley and all of our neighbors except one have short chainlink fences he probably could've hopped easily and took cover in their yards. So the roommate called the cops, just in case ol boy shows back up it's on record that we called the cops.

The cop was nice as could be. Said he'll be on duty until about 6am and he'd be coming through here regularly for the next couple of nights.

Bet her fiance is glad I'm such a "nervous little sh!t!" he says something everyday when he comes home and I have the door locked in the middle of the day.

Pretty sure he was casing the house. He has probably just gotten done checking the back door, or was about to. Gonna keep my ears on high alert tonight.

Don't plan on it! Wouldn't have gone to the backyard if he hadn't run back there unarmed. That's typically why we keep the backyard lit up. But for whatever reason the light got cut off tonight.

If you know your neighbors, I like that chase scene in one of the Bourne movies that had glass glued to the tops of walls and such. Might not help catch him but some good deep cuts on his hands would help the police if that saw a guy with blood on him.

Oh don't worry bout that! Glad I'll be out of this hood by the end of the summer! Tired of having to be paranoid all the time. Neighbors got broken into a year ago(got a AK and a purse stolen, luckily we'd gotten a good look at the thug when he was casing both of our houses a few days before so he got put away for a while and they got the AK back, and didn't lose much out of the purse except cards. The roommate claims she got a great look at the guy and would recognize him if she saw him again...she's great with faces, so if something happens and we aren't around, if they manage to find the guy she'll know who to point the finger at in the lineup

Nope I wouldn't be sleeping for the next LONG while. Fiance' is lucky he wasn't hurt by chasing the guy. Never know if the guy could have turned and fired on him at some point. That's just scary. Glad everything has turned out OK so far but I would be letting the neighbors know so they could be on the look out for anything strange going on. Things like that freak me out after the experiences I have had. As a kid we had a car port lite we left on at night. Well the night someone tried to burn our house down they checked the door knob (we heard it rattle) then they removed the light bulb from the car port light(we thought it had blown). Figured the door knob rattling was probably our imagination so we went to bed. The next morning you could see scortch mark on the car port at the back door and laundry room door and under the gas tank on my moms van and matches laying around on the car port. Oh and they let my dog out of the pen to just run lose(no clue why).

Yeah he's lucky. Going to talk to the landlord about fixing our carport light as well! He's got a laundry list of stuff he's going to fix in the next few weeks so I'll make that his priority.

And yeah he's lucky....he's not one for common sense....he thinks he can take on the world with a buck knife and a multitool....not the brightest but a good guy.

Oh and thought about it and he mightve been checking the John Deere mower and new gas grill we have back there also. The deere has a cable lock on it, but I haven't bought one for the grill yet so I rolled it into my shed with the ninja and locked it up. Gotta make a walmarket run tomorrow for the game this weekend so I'll pick one up while I'm there!

Scary stuff Mrs Hammer, we're living in a time when little things like a light out doesn't mean you have to change it tomorrow, it might mean to keep walking outside to check out strange noises. No fun getting up at 2:00 A.M. but like your husband says on his post, trouble never makes an appointment.
Jake, you might want to store everything but a couple home defense guns at a friend or relatives. Don't count on seeing the guy or police drawing. They had a picture of the guy who stole my suburban like he posed for it. A month later they found a shell of it, everything inside and from the front bumper to the differential was gone. My wake up call that I'd overstayed my welcome in Jackson. Good luck until you move.

Let me know if you need help dragging him inside.

Just kidding...............or am I?
I'm not....ha. My roommate wants to spray paint a few signs that say go away and turn back now and trespassers will be shot like michael cane and Robert duvall had posted in secondhand lions.

The only problem with the gun signs is announcing their presence...otherwise I would.

These thugs just don't know me...if it were up to me theft would be a hanging offense...I'm not one of those in favor of letting them spend 2 days in jail and the life on parole and foodstamps.

post a sign on the fence, english and spainish, "a gun lives here go rob someone else if you value your life." and be watchful. theres always a neighbor home where we live.
Me too my neighborhood is 80% old 15% college and 5%......we'll just say democrat. But the guy across the street from me is nosey as can be and never leaves. And then my neighbor on the right side is always there, if she isn't her boyfriend is and usually doing yardwork to boot so they'd most likely see something during normal hours

+1 on no signs. The only ones I've ever used on house or vehicle was some security co stickers and such. I love'em but no 'protected by smithandwesson'. No need to advertise. I don't let folks know what I have here and there and at a buddy's house once 'cause he didn't have anything for awhile to protect his family during an incident(someone also seen hanging out)...Never know when going down an alley someone else may be there...You know what's happened so just be aware. When people see alertness they tend to stay away...but then he doesn't need to be on much to be trouble

A lot of small Mississippi towns have these big ole oak trees on the square. I'd like to see um put to some use other than growing squirrel food. I think public hangings would be an effective deterrent to crime. Especially repeat offences.

+1 on not advertising also. I try not to even be visible from the street when loading and unloading the truck before and after a range or hunting trip.

I'm the same. Everything is either concealed on me or in a subtle case or blanket to disguise it.

I'm serious about hangings. Much cheaper than deathrow! I guess on the first offense we could just do like the Arabs and chop off a hand or something to that extent for theft....seriously! Start giving people a reason to be scared of the consequences and crime will go down. Plus not only are our prisons over populated but so is the earth...so why not thin out the gene pool a bit!

It sounds like you need a good dog. I recommend something over 75 pounds that hates everybody but you.
Don't have the room. How about a 7 pound pom(that loves anybody that will pet her) and a 10 pound evil @$$ mini wiener dog? Live in a small rental house and the backyard isn't fenced in so a big dog isn't an option at the moment! First thing on my to-do list once I'm out of school and in my own place though. And before you ask the dogs weren't my choice...the pom is my fiance's and the wiener is my roommate's
