Ok so Jay only iritated me again tonight with his refusing to listen to the best pistol shooters around. Common sense says take their advice to help improve, but common curtousey says don't be a butt head when they try to help or offer advice. I can't wait for him to go. Tonights show was pretty interesting I think (if ya over look Jay). After it went off an interesting show on the M16 came on.

What I don't understand is the left to right shooting of the plates. The movement from left to right would accomplish the loss of the natural point of aim of the stance. I would have shot the plates in last night's challenge from bottom to top, after I quickly established my natural point of aim. Not having a Natural Point of Aim causes horizontal dispersion of the shots on target. This is basic pistol and rifle fundamentals as taught by the NRA and USAS.

As far as Jay is concerned, he will eliminate himself, soon enough.

How much does one of those race guns cost?
Money buys speed...How FAST do you wanna go!!!!!!

Seriously, an Open class shooter with race-gun, mags, belt gear...some can spend 5 to 8 grand.

That's why I shoot Production Class in USPSA. We had one Open class shooter out of 53 competitors in Sunday's USPSA match.

With my CZ rig I have under $1900.00. Brass is a alot cheaper too.

For the specific gun in the show, a Limcat RazorCat, the price is $4895. Currently out of stock, but: Limcat RazorCat Open Pistol Figure another $800 - $1000 for mags and belt rig if you want top of the line stuff.

I'll disagree with Cliff about the brass being much cheaper for his CZ. The RazorCat comes in 9mm too, as are many, if not most, newer Open raceguns. I will give him that the brass won't last as long shooting 9mm major as it will in minor, but loading minor and just shooting steel with the Open gun would even things up completely.

The sky is the limit on how much you can spend in any division really, but you don't have to spend that much to be competitive or go fast. New Open guns can still be found in the mid $2K region, and decent used ones for little more than half that. I know of a used STI that was purchased with C-More, mags, and barrels/comps in both 9mm and .38 Super for $1400 that has won Open at local matches with little more than a belt, holster, and mag pouches added. I have an Open gun but very seldom shoot it, in part because I don't care for the blast and haven't worked hard enough on finding the dot in awkward shooting positions. Mostly I just prefer iron sights and Limited division, which I have always enjoyed most. My Open gun was less than $3K for gun and mags, and it is a full custom "shorty". It was built 7 or 8 years ago though and is in .38 Supercomp, so brass is high. If I were to decide to shoot it a lot, a rebarrel to 9mm would be a cost effective option.

While participation in Open has dwindled in the Jackson area, it is still popular in other areas of the State (and country) and usually has a good turnout at most major matches.

TO sum it up... you gotta pay to play lol
Ha ha ha, are you saying I am too wordy? Indeed you do have to pay to play though, as you do with most hobbies worth having. You can get into most USPSA divisions with a complete rig capable of winning the Nationals in the right hands for about the same price as a nice set of golf clubs, i.e. less than $1K for everything. Open raceguns like the one on Top Shot are the "top fuel dragsters" of the sport though, and generally cost more.

My old limited division rig had less than $1200 in it, including everything. Gun, 4 mags, belt, holster, all the "necessary" stuff for a limited division race gun (magwell, sights, etc)

Getting into other divisions besides Production doesn't have to be expensive.

Limited Division > Production division.
