Yeah, I've been going cheap for the past couple of years, but this year I invested in a pretty expensive vest harness. I love it. I feel safer, and the vest has pockets to let me carry stuff more conveniently.

i wear mine everytime. I have had two falls when i was younger one from about 12 feet and the other from almost 20. Neither from the stand one was trimming limbs and the 12 ft was off a ladder while painting. Unbelievalby no serious injuries but i have a healthy fear of heights because of it. All of my hunting buddies now wear a harness. Two of them started wearing them only after they had kids. I am using the muddy outdoors harness and it has a linesman's belt with it that makes it great for using when hanging lockon's.

I am very sorry about your friend. I am from New York, originally and I have never used a tree stand. Some aspects of deer hunting in NY are as dangerous as using a tree stand. I have fallen twice on a steep hill and ravine. Hunting can be as dangerous from the terrain you walk in as the firearms,

Thanks for all the condolences. It's funny: I knew the Mikey from once-a-year fishing trips to Venice, La., and now wish I would have spent more time getting to know him better. Always an eye opener when something like this happens.

That is a sad story. I know the harness can be a lot of trouble but it'll save you. I helped get a man out of tree one night after he fell and his foot got caught in the stand leaving him hanging upside down for hours, I think he lost his leg.
