Trudeau asks Canadian government to study full ban on handguns and assault weapons

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has ordered a study of a potential full handgun and assault weapons ban in his country.

Trudeau ordered Border Security and Organized Crime Reduction Minister Bill Blair to conduct the study with Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale in a mandate letter, as reported by CBC News.

“You should lead an examination of a full ban on handguns and assault weapons in Canada, while not impeding the lawful use of firearms by Canadians,” the letter stated.

The gun violence issue rose to prominence after a deadly shooting in Toronto in July.

At the time, Trudeau vowed the government would take steps to ensure the public safety, but did not say if that would include a handgun ban.

The shooter used a 0.40-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun, which he obtained illegally by allegedly breaking-and-entering into a gun store.

Police have not concluded what the shooter’s motives were. The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria claimed credit for the attack shortly after it occurred, though police have said they have “no evidence” that the shooting was linked to the terrorist organization, according to CBC News.

Not mentioned: the Toronto shooter was Faisal Hussain. Hussain lived with his parents in the building, and neighbors said the family was Pakistani. Hussain, who was 29, was born in Canada, according to people who knew the family.

Read between the lines at what's not being said.

Thank goodness America has the 2A. JMO.

A better example of oxymoronic bureaucratic twaddle than this sentence is rarely seen. Oh well, it'll make 'em easier to take over as a (non-voting) territory/possession down the road I suppose.

I deciphered that twaddle to mean that long guns and shotguns might be allowed by the Canadian government (for hunting, sport shooting purposes?) after said "examination" …

I could be wrong though.

My spouse is from Canada, and grew up in Montreal and Toronto.

She's just shaking her head right now.

We've got a 3 day weekend coming up and I don't have plans. I've been toying around with the idea of invading and conquering Canada but, I may need six or eight people to help. Anybody in?

Well, to his credit, this should solve this problem once and for all.

I would help but I cannot stand the sound of continuous wussy apologies. Especially with a French-Canadian accent.
