Big camp chopper from a farriers rasp, brut de forge style. Curled finial for a pommel/Hand stop and lanyard ring, integral finger guard. This one will get lignum vitae scales for a handle. Overall length is 18.5 inches. It’s meant to be a beastly looking blade with a Blacksmith’s touch. I’ll post more pics when it’s done. [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Thanks I appreciate the comments! I’m proud of the forging on this one, the third picture is right out of the forge & I got it about 90% completed to shape at the anvil which saves a lot of time and sanding belts. A lot of forged knives are forged to a very rough shape and then manipulated heavily at the grinder. Spending the last year and a half doing mostly Blacksmith training has really improved my hammer and anvil skills. I think this one is going to look pretty cool when the handle is done. I’d thought of doing a hidden tang but I wanted to draw the rat tail of the rasp into the knife somehow. I may do another and pull that tail up into a hand guard.

I’m not super thrilled with the G10 handle but it cut halfway through this 2x2x16 red oak and still shaved hair so I’m happy with that. This one was made purely as a testing/demo blade with a very specific purpose so the aesthetics aren’t quite as important to me. I️ won’t be selling this one anyway so I️ can live with the funky handle. I️ started this one late Friday night and have a total of about 4-5 hours in it. [IMG]

I would have no problem buying it provided I had enough money to cover the work of art you made.
I like it kinda rough and tough look and the rat tail is quite unique to me, especially since my handle is rigrat, LOL.

Nicely done. I think she should be dubbed "The Rat Blade".

And please keep posting some of your work on here, really enjoy seeing it develop into finished products.

This one just kinda happened this way. I decided to keep the rat tail tang of the rasp and pull it into a finial and make a lanyard hole out of it. I made a short video showing some of the forging of this blade

I can't believe you don't think that one is worthy of selling. Looks beautiful to me.:101010:

Maybe it’s that way with most people who do this Stuff, all I see are the flaws.

^^^THIS^^^ I feel that you really shouldn't but
having known the late Jimmy Lile, I understand
the mental itch that creative folks are prone to.
    Beautiful work.

You see the creation process from start to finish where we only get to see the finished product. You know the blade inside and out where we do not. What we see as a beautiful product you see things you would have done differently. Sometimes you have to let go of the process.

BTW, one of my favorite shows is Forged In Fire!
