Just read on another forum a news article which must be dated sometime in 2008 or early 2009 that said the Korean Ministry of Defence had 81,000 M1 Garands and 22,000 M1 Carbines that have been mothballed for 5 decades and were in a warehouse. They wanted to sell these guns to American Gun buyers but the U.S. Government refused them permission on the grounds they could cause gun accidents or get into the hands of terrorists. Seeing the shortage of both types of rifle I would assume they never made it to the US market. Anyone know what the disposition was on those guns? I googled it and couldnt find anything. The article also stated that if they could sell them the Garands would go for $229 and the Carbines for $179.
