I have several new to relatively new powders to use on some old (and new) cartridges. Tomorrow was suppose to be a washout, so I will try to get some loaded. The older cartridges are the .300 Win Mag, 7mm Rem Mag, and the venerable .257 Roberts. Both magnums are Sauer 24.4" factory guns. The 7 Mag has a 9.4" twist rate, while the .300 has a 1:11". The Roberts will use Nosler +P brass and sport a Savage Model 11 action mated to a 20" Pac-Nor barrel with 1:9" twist. I think the performance levels may get a boost. Perhaps more than a little. I have some 168 grain Berger VLDs that I want to run in the 7 Mag, while I'll spin a few more 180 grain Ballistic Tips from the .300. I tried a new powder for that cartridge and bullet combination earlier this week that was not designed for this application. The results were very good accuracy at the 100yd berm, but very high velocity spreads.

There is a 101 grain Barnes Long Range X bullet for the quarterbore I want to play with and also the tried and true Nosler 115 grain Ballistic Tip, and the good old 117 grain Sierra. Actually, I have some factory seconds from Midway that are actually 120 grain Nosler Partitions. I intend to try them out, as well. One wouldn't expect too much from a Roberts with lopped off barrel, but I'm going to step on the gas and lay out my process step by step hopefully remembering to add a few photos here and there.

In my wildcat .270 SDC, I will run some 130 grain Ballistic Tips, as well as some 117 grain Hammer Hunters and maybe some 120 grain Hornady SSTs. The SDC is a necked up 6.5 Creedmoor with modified throat and 1:10 twist. It has already demonstrated it can make bug holes with the Ballistic Tips, Jagemann formed brass, and a decent charge of Norma 204. I want to get hold of some Alpha or ADG Creedmoor brass and try that load again.

I almost forgot the 7mm-08. I did some testing with it a week or so ago to achieve sub-1/2 MOA groups with a newer powder that I didn't have data for. I was using 120 grain Ballistic Tips. I also have some 120 grain Barnes TTSX and would like to put them side by side. Generally, the Ballistic Tips are almost unbeatable for accuracy tests except for the Accubond of the same weight. In every side by side comparison I've run, the Accubond has been a more accurate bullet. The margin has been anywhere from a scant 1/16" up to almost 1/2". Good luck finding Accubonds now. They're either on Gun Broker selling for 4 - 5 times the normal retail price or being used by Nosler themselves to make enough ammo to keep the doors open.

I have some Alliant Reloader 15.5, Reloader 16, Vihtavuori N555, and StaBall I want to run in these smaller cases, while testing Vihtavuori N565, Reloader 26, and the last of my Enduron 7977. Also, I have lots of Hybrid 100V onhand... (Remember the hubub when 100V came out about 15 years ago?) I think it and Enduron 4955 may be great for the Roberts with the Barnes bullet. I have a sufficient amount of 4955 onhand. Lots to do in a short time!

Didn't get a lot done, but here's a start. .257 Roberts
Automotive tire Food Food storage containers Food storage Tire
Military camouflage Air gun Wood Trigger Table
Road surface Wood Cross Gas Asphalt

Finally got a scope to match the coating. Happened by Van's in Brandon last weekend and found an OLD Leupold VX-I 3x9x40 that had better glass than anything newer I picked up. Looks like it was never mounted. Using Nosler 115gr Ballistic Tips with the 9" twist in the 20" McGowen barrel.

1 3/8" to 1 3/4" accuracy is unacceptable. The action is in a bind somewhere. I will have to take it apart, Dremel it out, and reassemble. I was afraid of this, but hopeful. Last shot of group was just off the page on the left. Never fired a 3rd round at the center target. It was obvious something wasn't right. I'll have a fouling shot next time. Boyd's reject for you!
