Does anyone know how I can go about doing this when I move to MS?

I want to exercise my right to defend myself and to show others that women are capable too :)

The Department of Public Safety shall issue a license if the applicant:

(a)
Is a resident of the state and has been a resident for twelve (12) months or longer immediately preceding the filing of the application. However, this residency requirement may be waived, provided the applicant possesses a valid permit from another state, is active military personnel stationed in Mississippi or is a retired law enforcement officer establishing residency in the state;

I was going to suggest one of the States that do not require residency, such as Florida or Utah, but at least Utah requires that you be a U.S. Citizen. More info here: http://publicsafety.utah.gov/bci/concealedfirearms.html

These states also require some training, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. I was thinking you get one of these and first off, they are recognized here, but more importantly, it gets you around the 1 year residency requirement as quoted by nonnieselman.

I could be wrong to but I thought that's how it was.

A year and a half ouch!!!
Well I was over 3 months ago and will be visiting July and Dec so its not so bad I guess. :)

I wouldn't have got married just now, would be too much hassle and rushing. We've decided to wait until I get by with this.

Sorry for any confusion, I may have had a brain fart.

Resident aliens

Just let your fiance / husband be the bodyguard for a year, then apply for your permit.

I'm not sure if our "peaceable traveler" law applies to residents of other countries. Can a resident alien keep a gun in his/her vehicle? (Sorry, remgirl, but that's the technical term--not to imply that you have two heads or tentacles.) Resident aliens can buy guns legally.

I've always found the American term "alien" to be quite funny, though I don't feel foreign.

Oh yeah I can buy a gun but i'll need to wait a year until I can apply for my CCW. I am very independent so I guess i'll allow him to protect me for a year :affraid: :D
