Neat Smith! According to the SCSW the 439 was made from 1979 to 1988. It also says that the first gun was A670220 produced on Feb 26 1981. Then it says that A669,101 was made the same day? Maybe some kind of typos? It also says that the first few thousand had a short wide extractor before changing to the Model 39-2 style. Rounded trigger guard was early production. Squared tg was made standard in 1985. Serial number prefix changed from A to TAA in 1984. Slight value premium for nickel.
The Model 39 has a long and storied history dating back to 1955, when wheel guns were still king.
I sent that first post from the car on the way home. As soon as I got home I pulled out my SCSW4 and looked it up. SN puts this one at 1982. Those pachmayr grips have got to go. Already watching some wood ones on eBay.

If you are a high volume shooter, this is the ammo for you. These rounds have a Full Metal Jacket bullet and are noncorrosive, with smooth-cycling. They have cylinder-shaped steel case with a with non-projecting flange and polymer-coating.
