Reloaded 5 .223 rounds. Problem is was in a hurry and could have ended up with a stuck bullet. Had one I missed putting powder in . Heard a click waited, then ejected. Pulled the bullet and , look no powder. Thing is I never heard the primer go off either, and if it would have went off I would have figured I would have a stuck bullet right now.
Will be using a light and verifying each load for now.
Target was about 20 something yards, red dot, right at dusky dark.

Yeap, one of the most underrated reloading tools...

I can tell you I understand it's use now. I need me a funnel also to pour the powder into the casing with. Something I never thought of but see the need for. Or a die to use my powder dispenser.

Nothing loaded today. The other day I loaded 3 - 62 grain and 3 - 55 grain. I did size some casings today though. I found out that if they had a red primer not to try and size them. Stuck one of those cases. It was not fun getting the stuck case out either. Went through and separated out all the cases with red on the primer.

My homemade powder funnel.

Anyone have a ideal why the casings with the red on the primer stick? The others just resize effortlessly. These you can feel the resistance almost immediately and if you go ahead it will stick.

BM, it looks like you are putting too much taper crimp on those rounds. It might just be reflections in the picture. Please post a clear close up of the round where the bullet meets the case.

Also, I feel your W231 loads of 4.3, 4.6, 5.0gr are going to be too light. With a 230gr bullet I suggest 5.3 or 5.5gr of W231.

.
Using Quickload and assuming a 5" barrel, looks like 231 @ 4.3 will give 715fps.

Did you try the W231 loads?

And I'm far from being a expert on reloading as I don't know much. But the flare looks to me like it is a little to much.

BM , Something is not right with your dies. Go back and set each one up again according to the directions for the LEE dies.

Loaded up 9, 38 spl shot shells. Used 7.5 shot over 2.5gr Clays and paper wads and crimped.

Tried out 3 today. S&W 4" skinny barrel, model 10, DA only.

10 feet, was actually aiming just above the head.

Right side 10 feet, Left 5 feet

That's a "good" snake.

Rig, did you have the targets hanging up or laying on the ground? I test my snake loads with the target laying on the ground, too, and was kinda surprised by the pattern difference in some. Same load had a very different spread between hanging on the fence and laying on the ground.

Also, when you say crimped, do you mean you crimped the round closed, or with a paper wad over the shot, then crimped to hold the paper in?
It was on the ground but not laid totally flat.
The crimp was over a thin cardboard wad. And actually I use a 45acp bullet seat die to lightly round the brass edge over the wad. I also dropped hot wax over the end as someone had suggested in the past.
I get home tonight I'll put one flat on the ground and see how it does.
I really wish I had some number 9 shot to try.

Ive loaded 38spl shot shells with spent Small and Large primers.. It was crazy what it would do to small stuff. They grouped horrible tho.
LOL now there's a ideal to get rid of some of these.

@BasMstr

Loaded up another round to try on the paper snake laying flat on the ground. I'm still pretty happy with the results using my M10 skinny DA only.

Snake on the right used spent primers. One got him above the eye on the right.

Snake on the left 7.5 shot.

Looks good! Did you use the primer cup & anvil? About how many do you think you were able to fit? Thinking I might load a couple with just the anvil to see how they do. Figure they'd make a nasty mess.
I used the complete spent primer. Think it was 8 to the load. Terrible accuracy though. prefer the shot over it. Using the Clays powder leaves pretty good bit of room for shot. I'll try and remember to weigh out exactly how much it holds.

Interesting, I would have thought the 300BO would have been significantly more accurate...maybe because I associate the 7.62x39 with the AK?
My SKS surprised me, especially with the scope on it. I think the round has the accuracy potential of a 30/30 in a lever action.
