Yes it does, and I don't like it, either.
Yes it does, and I don't like it, either.BM, is there resistance when the case mouth first enters the factory crimp die? The crimp die in my 4-die set of 40 S&W does this, and I don't like it.
Um, no..........you didn't tell me I was supposed to!BasMstr, did you clean your dies when you got them?
I'll try to load a gew tonight and take some pictures.BM, I tried to take a close up picture of the bell on a case after the bullet is seated. 10+ pics on 3 different backgrounds and they all sucked. Sorry.
Sorry, some of the pictures aren't very clear. What does the bell look like after the bullets is seated?
Thanks!Those rounds look much better.
Gotcha. I could see the variance being caused by build up in the die, making the bullet seat farther in, causing a shorter OAL. The longer OAL was what had me shaking my head. Once somebody smarter than me explains it, it makes perfect sense -- kind of like why lighter bullets use more powder.Your bullet is pushed in the case not from the tip but the area where the seating plug contacts the bullet. This area might vary slightly from bullet to bullet. It is very common for the OAL to vary a couple thousands of an inch. If you had a plug molded to the exact profile of your bullet you might be able to reduce how much it varies but I doubt you will ever get rid of it all. Jacketed bullets might have less variance if the plug matches well but it will still vary a little. Also how you use your caliper could make readings off just a tad.
Bottom line is a couple thousands plus or minus doesn't make enough difference most of us could ever notice. A chronograph might see a couple of feet per second difference. Slight changes in powder in the case will make a greater difference.
No, Bobcat shot all those up. All he has left now are 147 grain RN, and a few each of the 142 grain BNWC and 110 grain SWC. Actually been cruisin' the net this morning looking for the best price I can find on those two bullets.Hey, BM,do have any of these left, I would love to buy a few to run thru my DAN WESSON 357. at M & G next month.
That's a "good" snake.
Daddy Likes!! That there is a bullet PawPaw! Bet they're fun to shoot.
Looks good! Did you use the primer cup & anvil? About how many do you think you were able to fit? Thinking I might load a couple with just the anvil to see how they do. Figure they'd make a nasty mess.@BasMstr
Loaded up another round to try on the paper snake laying flat on the ground. I'm still pretty happy with the results using my M10 skinny DA only.
Snake on the right used spent primers. One got him above the eye on the right.
Snake on the left 7.5 shot.
