And, what Californicating Liberal came up with the idiotic idea? Sure wish someone could explain it's value in a way a dummy like me could understand. I bought a car gun yesterday that I really like. The price was right enough that I won't be as broken hearted should it get stolen. Seemed to make a lot more sense than carrying my Glocks around. Anyways, as I said, I really like and appreciate the simplicity of this little Bersa Thunder. It's got a lot of features I really like for such a bottom dollar gun, like second strike capabilty in case some of this expensive .380 ammo fails to fire and the workings are so simple they should be almost fail safe. However, it's also equiped with a mag disconnect safety that I immediately removed. I understand that it's a requirement for some of these small autos to meet the point system, but, for the life of me, I can't understand what useful purpose it serves. Why would anyone think it was beneficial for the firearm to be disabled if they accidentally dropped the mag. Geeze, I've still got one in the chamber. I'm not quite dead yet.

Anyways, thankfully most can be removed, however I'm sure the powers to be would be highly disappointed to learn it was no longer functional. Probably be great lawyer fodder, but I don't believe I care. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. Hopefully, some of you guys will be on my jury.:)

I agree, mag safeties are the dumbest idea ever. I'd hate have to rely on a weapon that wouldn't work if I failed to properly seat a magazine or inadvertently released the mag.

Guns had magazine safeties long before California had their points system. When the French asked J.M.B. to design a new service pistol in the '20s one of their requirements was a magazine disconnect that's why the High Power was the first pistol with one.

It's supposed to be a safety to keep people from accidentally firing the gun when the mag is removed and they forget to clear the chamber, the "shot with an unloaded gun" accidents. Some police departments require them because they think if a cop and Bad guy are wrestling over a gun the cop might be able to eject the mag rendering the gun unfireable, improving their safety.

California reqires them because it's filled with idiots.

I don't like them because if you lose the mag you lose the ability to at least use the gun as a single shot if you need to.

Agreed. Mag safeties are ridiculous. One thing I can't figure out though. You said you don't want to carry your GLOCKs around. Why? It would suck to have one stolen but it would suck more to NEED a gun and NOT have a GLOCK

You're right and I do carry a Glock when I go into an area that requires it, but I never leave it in the car 24/7. My car's never been broken in to, but sure as I left a nice gun in the glove compartment, it probably would be. Hence, that's why I picked up a cheap, but reliable weapon that could leave there without me worrying too much about it. Figured that even though I seldom venture into areas where I need protection, it would be prudent to have some anyway. The old idea that the best gun is the one that's with you scenario.:)

That makes sense. I can see using the Bersa as a 24/7 car gun just in case you forget the primary gun. Although, trouble can strike at any time and it's best to make sure you have given yourself every possible advantage. There are some situations in which I equip myself a little heavier but I always like to have the best possible firepower for any given situation. All I'm saying is don't under equip yourself any more than necessary.

....and you're right. ANY gun is better than NO gun at all.
