If ya just gotta go cheap...I can recommend a Nikon Prostaff with a BDC on my handi in 444 Marlin....good scope for a $250 gun...

Normally my minimum is a Nikon Monarch which typically start about $500...but on a handi the Prostaff works well

The Bushnell Tacticall Elite 4200's are price performers...also in the $600 range

Please don't put a ultra el cheapo on there for your son....get him something decent to start on...The first time He blows warm air on it on a cold winter am and fogs it up while trying to line up a deer you'll know what I mean

with a younger shooter may want to look at a scope with good eye relief. If they are just starting to shoot and are not used to a scope kids will often times have a hard time finding the target through the scope, the extra eye relief will help them.
Nikon and bushnell 4200 are both good choices.

Have You looked at the new Redfields made by Leupold. Nikon prostaff is another to look into, both are in the same price range. Lower end price range is the Tasco WorldClass 3x9x40. $45.00 at natchezss.com not a bad price or scope. Natchezss.com has all three scopes so you can compare prices. Hope this helps :sunny:

Son bought a bunch of Leupolds at the PX for a $100 on some sale. Sold one later that day for $175. He'd sell you one for what he got it for if he knows it for a kid. PM if you're interested and I'll check with him what he's got left if any. He's been in school and I been out of town working so we haven't talked for the last few day's.
Post a pic of his first one and tell him good luck!

Now personally I'd jump on that deal Sid just offered ya

better pm him

Oh yeah...don't skimp on the rings and bases either...they are a very important of the equation...if your nice scope gets loose during a hunt...its all for naught....

I see a lot of folks really take a minimum to get by approach on scopes in general and it really drives me nuts. I've done it once myself :lol3: and was very unhappy...Kinda like buying a new truck with all your money and then just putting some re-treads on for tires

Sounds like Sid has a good deal for ya....

PM him...

I checked in with my son and they were snatching them up on the net for 175. He's going to look at the PX again for Nikon Prostaff they had on sale. Hope they have some cause I want one of those also. If they only have one though, It'll be for Scott's son.

I have a Bushnell 3x9x40 for sale in the classified that would work great on this gun. It has the rings already with it. I used it on my Handi Rifle in 444 Marlin and it always held its zero. $50 and its yours.

With that said if you go with a more expensive scope you might want to stay away from the BDC for a youngster. All the little extra lines and circles might just be something that confuses him in the excitment of the moment. I would say at 10 YO the simpilier the better..

Apologies to my daughter-in-law. She didn't send it priority, she sent it overnight. Money down the drain, marked Nov. 11 and just got here today. Got two leupold 3x9x40 if you still want one. The other's for me. Let me know. If you're mailing for Christmas, you're probably too late.
