So I was flipping through the channels last night.. and saw the tail end of some news-like show talking about underage girls being .. basically kidnapped and forced into prostitution.... via Craigslist... I have to saw, I really hope the show was blowing things out of proportion... if not.. I am a scared unhappy puppy. I have a daughter that is 19 (very resposible, but also rather independent). Does she have to wait to be 21 to get a CCW? This show was scary... kids being picked up at schools, malls, anywhere. The "pimp" made his money and considers the girls "expendiable" in terms of getting more. Is this a problem in Jackson? I thought CL had been pretty much cleaned up.

Grew up with 3 brothers. A daughter was something completely new. Taught her to box when she was old enough to walk. Went to a wedding and the bridesmaids and wives went out. A drunk woman pushed my wife and my daughter jumped in to make the girl appologize. Instead she threw a hay maker (wife's a tee-totaler although none of them were drunk). Daughter busted the first one and drew blood. A 2nd came in to fight and she laid her out with a one punch. After she laid out the third comer, the other's (8 in total) decided to leave her alone.
She's old enough to do what she wants but told me she wouldn't be back to Bourbon St. Glad I taught her to protect herself with the sweet science (all I know is boxing, no karate, etc). When she got old enough to hold up a pistol, we started with the .22 and worked our way up as she got older. Bottom line, teach them to protect themselves against other girls and men (yeah, we went over that also) and teach them to shoot and handle a firearm safely. If they shut down craig'slist, some other slimeball will start something up. Teach them their greatest weapon, their brain.

Don't know if it was the same show but I watched part of one the other night about Oakland, CA - same type subject ... It was scary!

I only had boys - sometimes I am glad it actually turned out that way. However, IF I had a girl, I would be tempted to have them watch this type show for the education ...

Like Sid said above -- Teach them their greatest weapon, their brain.

I would not worry about craigslist, it is a place to sell things. I would be more concerned with Myspace and facebook. I agree with everyone above. The best thing is to educate them on the dangers. I got my wife's attention with an episode of Best Defense. It was the one were a woman was looking for her kid in the parking lot and lured you toward her van.
