Most of my scopes are low-end models, and they seem to work just fine. My abilities (and vision) are such that I'm not sure I can justify the cost of a really expensive scope. My most expensive scope was less than $400 and that included the mount. I'm getting ready to build something (probably an AR in 6.8 SPC) and I'm wondering if a high-dollar scope is worth the money. What scopes are you using? What's your most expensive one? Was it worth the money? Do you prefer fixed or variable-power? I'm looking forward to your thoughts. Thanks!

not yes but h-ll yes they are worth the money look thru a night force or u.s. optics or any other high end scope from around 1000.00 and up and you will see the difference. I am not saying a 500 dollar super sniper want do just the higher end do heck of a lot better 12x42 night force usually run around 1400.00 i have a couple. Buy a high end scope and you will throw rocks at the other lower end scopes

$100 maybe, I have never seen the need to spend alot of money on a scope, if a cheap Bushnell or Simmons holds zero and I can hit the vitals on a deer with it, why waste hundreds or thousands on scope I don't need to be able to kill one? They aren't gonna be any deader. Rather spend that money on a new gun. :2c:

Leupold (3) scopes worth every penny. But I do agree with some of the other forum members it depends on what You are putting it on and what You plan to use the firearm for. :2c: There are alot of good brand name scopes at reasonable prices out there. Good Luck

I remember a gun rag writer once said you need to spend as much on the scope as you did on the rifle. I noticed a lot of scope ads in the magazine though ;)

I was fortunate enough to get a 3.5 x 10 x 40 AO VXIII from a guy that had lost confidence in it for $125, and that was in 1992! I've yet to see a reason to upgrade it for my deer rifle although a 50mm objective to stretch the half hour after sunset to the max is tempting.

I've got a 8 x 32 BSA for under $100 for the F-class 22, but I wouldn't dare subject it to field use and heavy recoil!

Just my 2 cents, weigh my opinion on the fact that I'm an iron sight guy. I bet over my lifetime less than 5% of my shots have been aimed through glass.

I have a millet LRS on my 300wm that cost $425. Thats the most expensive one. But then again i have a aimpoint m2 on one of my ARs and it cost me $400. I have a $275 millett trs 4-16 on my 270 that ive shot out to 1000yds and was able to get a 3 shots out of cold bore that were under 12".

I cant bring myself to spend 1k+ on a scope. Maybe one day when i have some money :)

I have a burris euro diamond that is super bright and clear. I paid $500 + for it. You cam see deer across grass fields very clearly at dawn and dusk. I do know this, swaro el binoculars are almost like night vision. They're unbelievable even at dark. No way I could drop $2000 on binos though. Not as long as I have 2 kids in private school.

$400 Alpen. It has target knobs and is crystal clear. It's more scope than I'll ever need. I've used lots of "budget" scopes and the Alpens and Konus Pros are a lot of goodness for the money. Can't justify $1k for a scope.

I started upgrading scopes last year on my deer rifles. I went with a VXIII 3.5x10x40 BDC and a Nikon Monarch 3x12x42 BDC. Both of these were 450-550 dollar scopes and the thing I noticed about them is that the VXIII is really easy to sight in.. 1 click = 1/4 inch and the Monarch is worth its weight in gold at dusk.... I have some higher end optics in Binocs and the Nikon really does a great job for the money.
