i feel like this will be my next purchase... i may have to have it sooner than later too...

that thing is SEXY!!!
From what I've read, the replacement mags are super high-dollar. Same mag as for the Accuracy International rifles like the ones the Brits use for their army's sniper rifle.

There was a guy awhile back (like 2 or 3 years ago) who adapted an M-14 mag to work in a short action Ruger rifle. He had used a ten round M-14/M1A mag in it. It wasn't truly an interchangeable mag, but it *DID* give you a higher capacity. If I recall correctly, all he had to do was grind/file back the feed lips, since the rifle already has built-in feed lips, but from there you just loaded it single through the top just like one of their rifles with a standard blind box magazine.

It was written up over at The High Road in the "Rifle Country" section. I'll see if I can look it up and post a link for it.

The mags for this rifle are on gunbroker for 55$ my walther pps mags cost that much.

Still sexy and I still want one!

All ruger needs to do now is come out with a mini-308 that shoots the same mags and they'd be set. :)

Wow. Last time I heard the mags were like a c-note apiece.

Still think Ruger should've used the M-1A mag.

As usual they're tone-deaf as hell. A ten-round double stacker would've made for a much sleeker look.

Can't get much more mini-er it's already got a shorter barrel and overall length than a Remington Model 7. Or did you mean a mini 14 in .308?

i could agree with that now! a double stack is what i think they should have done too. that magazine could have been a 20 rounder without much efffort, with a 10 round being almost flush... :awesome:

Nice rifle. Cheaper than an m1a1. What is that place that makes factory mags for several makers like SA, Beretta, etc? I want to think Chess but I can't be sure and can't find it. I know this place makes 25 round mags for m1a1's.
What's the best price you seen so far Joe, I know you can sniff out a deal like a bird dog after quail.

I don't have one of these yet but I do have a Ruger Frontier in .308. It is the same barrel length with the scout scope mount in front of the action without the irons or the flash hider. I love to shoot this gun and it is very handy. I have it loaded with 150 gr Rem Soft Points and 46.5 gr of Varget to get 2600 fps.

When you get yours, we can meet and compare the two. I don't know if I like the removable mag but I do like the irons.

Some guy over at The High Road is the one that got to fiddling around with his Ruger Frontier model and figured that one out. I found the link to the post, but for some reason it won't open.

He had to file/grind the feed lips back since the receiver already had feed lips, but once he did that it fit in the mag well (with the floorplate removed of course) just right and worked like it was designed for it. It had to be single-loaded through the top, as it wasn't a true interchangeable mag, but it did up the capacity. No reason a 20 rounder wouldn't have worked just the same I'm thinking.

Check-Mate Industries are the mags you are talking about they also supply the mags being use in the M14 DMR's. C-products make a mag that will work in this rifle.
