I can home the other night and caught this guy flying out of my yard, I'd heard him before but never saw him until now. Little feller too, he'd prolly fit inside my hat.

I had two sitting across the powerline ROW from me on opening day morning back in Nov. and they stayed there for a good hour or so. One was lit in a pine tree and the other was lit in a sweetgum about ten feet lower and about 20 feet north of the first one. The one in the pine was the regular looking kind with the tufts on top of his head that look like ears and the other was the smaller, round-headed kind.

I sat and watched them through my scope for a long time. Fine looking critters.

When i was stationed in New Mexico we had lots of owls around. who knew owls lived in the desert.

Friend of mine has a pair that nest and raise in an oak in his front yard. I got some good pics of them, I'll try and post. Love listening to them.

We got several that hang out close to our house but haven't been lucky enough to see them

I think those little ones are called Saw Whet Owls. I remember seeing them when I lived at the Rez. They are tiny and their "hoot" sounds different than a horned owl.

That's neat. I was hunting some crp fields and saw a coyote so I tried to call it to me by sucking air throught my teeth. 5 sec later a had a big owl 20" from me looking for me. Needless to say I quit tring to call in the coyote.
