Who's shooting subsonic 308 out there?

Have shot some TTI factory stuff and now shooting a few of the 168gr Berger's loaded with 9g of Trail Boss.....
Bumped it to ten and it got loud on me.....

My main question is how low is your point of impact (compared to regular loads) at 100 yards?

And if anyone has a sweet recipe they want to share, I'd like to try it.
20" bbl is what I am shooting.

Re: Who's shooting subsonic 308 out there?

The setup we use works well. We are using a mildot scope, with supersonic it is set up with the X as zero at 100 yards. With subsonic ammo we use the second mildot down as zero. This way no matter what you are shooting you dont have to dope the scope. Just shoot two mildots high and you are on the money with subsonic stuff.

On the load there is a bit of voodoo to it. The best thing I can tell you is grab a chrono and a reloading press and go to work. As it cools off you will be able to shoot a hotter load. You will end up with summer and winter bullets if you want to push the envelope with the speed of the bullet.

Just load them a lil hotter and work your way down... make sure you see the bullet impact :D

I was using a 150gr flat nose with 9.5gr TB and a Wolf LP Primer in Rem brass. Never took it out to 100yds yet, still working on something that will group decent at 50yds.

Re: Who's shooting subsonic 308 out there?

Ok.... I'm at 10g TB w/ Berger 168gr BTHHP, Federal primer. Runnin' about 1050fps through my chrono. Have only shot a few. Seems that after the first round, sometimes the next couple are a bit loud... will keep checking but they are grouping great at 50. I just need to step out to 100 now. Holding 2nd mil-dot at 50 now instead of 4th. :)

Ok.... much better. Still will do some tweaking to get them a bit tighter. But at 100 yards I am happy with this load so far! 170gr Round Nose bullets w/ 10.1gr of TrailBoss. Out of a 20" bbl w/ 1:10 twist... AA Cyclone suppressor.

Seems like you may have proved my theory with round nose bullets and lower velocities. Glad your doing the leg work. It will save me some time. Lol. I think I'm gonna get a shorter barrel before I start playing with them.

I don't get much time but when I do I enjoy hitting the range. I am becoming more and more interested in my rifles again now. I just ordered some more 170gr RN. Will start tweaking on load. I have just realized that I need to get a 20MOA base now. :( A little late to learn but hey...... I'm fairly new at this part of shooting.

I have a handi rifle in 308. I get great grouping with the corbon ss from midway.
I shoot 50 yards but it holds tite groups. I load 10.1 grains trailboss with tula primers and sierra 180 grain sp flatbase #2150 case oal 2.800 with winchester brass. It is stealth also groups with the corbon subsonic. no scope adjustments needed. the tula primers work great for me and the cost is about $18 a thousand from natchez shootes supply.
