Started to ask this yesterday, but the store changed the deal and I didn't have to deal with it. Anyways, I was looking at the M&P compact in 9mm and found one for an outstanding price, however it had a dark earth colored frame. Not something I'd buy on purpose, but the gun was priced NIB at $409 with free shipping. They also had the black framed model for $453. Would you consider buying an off color for a $42 savings? Before I could make the decision, the store raised the price to $439 making my decision much easier. However, I must say I was torn until that happened. On one hand, I planned on keeping the gun for a long time, but on the other hand, I've noticed that the beige or earth colored handguns don't seem to resell very well. I'm not sure $42 is enough savings to warrant buying a gun you might have trouble getting rid of when the time comes. I think you could easily lose more than that on a resale. Sure glad they raised the price, because I was giving it some serious consideration. I like bargains, just not quite sure this would have been one.

I don't consider the dark earth "off color". It's quite popular with some people. However, generally speaking, for me the answer to this question is no, especially if the cost is within $50-$75. Sometimes I like a gun that's different. I have an XD45 in the dark earth and I like it. I have a SIG P238 Rainbow and I like it but I bought both of them because I liked them and have no intention of selling them. The only time that I'd buy something that I wasn't necessarily crazy about would be when it was a "deal of the year/decade" sort of thing. :2c:

I've only done it once. I bought a gold-plated Beretta .380. It's a nice gun but who really wants one that's gold-plated? (Don't answer that question) Anyway, I got for an EXCEPTIONALLY good deal so even if I'm stuck with it for life, it'll be ok. :lol4:

Yeah if it was a good deal and it was a keeper. Otherwise, I'd pass, not a bargain if you can't sell it at what you want.

As long as it was not pink or purple or some other "less than manly color", yes I would.
:lol3: I would have bought it. I like the dark earth color. One of my Glocks is OD frame. I would buy pink, but the savings would have to be more than 42 bucks, I would never buy purple. :lol3:

Hey, purple's my favorite color. Pink on the other hand...

Hrdnox, it's a question only you can answer. An M&P 9c for $409 is outstanding though. Probably make you get rid of that G26 :p

Well, I guess I'm not as crazy as I thought.:) I'm not personally opposed to the dark earth or OD, but have noticed they're a little harder to sell. Must be something to it, because I think Glock and S&W have discontinued the colors, with the exception of a few 45s. Bud's closed out the last remaining Glocks recently at a very cheap price compared to the norm. I think they were going for about $359 NIB, which seemed like a steal to me. I'd have probably bought one of those, if they had had more calibers to choose from. I've always thought they'd make and excellent pallet for a camo duracoat scheme. One less color to get scratched up. Anyways, I probably would have bought the M&P, if they hadn't adjusted the price. It may have been a mistake anyway, so they may not have shipped it. They saved me the trouble and disappointment of finding out.

Something like dark earth, tan, any other tacticool colors or some really crazy color like was mentioned earlier with purple or pink, I would NEVER waste my money on! I do like OD green on polymer....but let's face it...this is the south! OD green is actually practical! Desert tan is far from practical.

Now if it's the metal that is an odd color...and it's worth the discount if I wanted to refinish anyway...then I could deal!

Come on now, Jake!! If we only bought what was practical, most of our "collections" would be a lot smaller. Heck, my Thompson 1927A-1 would have never found it's way home and I LOVE that gun! I like a little variety!!

Not talking about the weapon itself being practical....I'm talking about the color....I just think it's kinda pointless to have a desert tan gun if you don't live in a desert area....but to each his own. Weird colors just don't interest me. I prefer black or stainless guns personally...but that's just a personal preference

In response to your basic question, "Would you buy a handgun that was a different color than you wanted?", my answer (if it makes any difference to anything) would be, “Not if I can help it”.

May I offer a couple of personal examples.

The Taurus PT738 TCP comes either "black" or with a "silvery" slide. I wanted it "black" and so ordered it. The dealer had the "shiny" slide but I wanted, and got, a "black" gun.

Both the Bersa 380 and Firestorm FS22LR come the same way, either "black" or with a "silvery" slide. I held out for the "black" gun.

The only exception has been the STI 9mm Guardian. It has a "silvery', SS, slide. I had no choice (as far as I know) if I wanted that particular pistol. However, I'm seriously considering some time early this new year to ask STI if they can blue (blacken?) the slide to match the frame.

PS – I know “black”, "shiny", and “silvery” are not technically accurate but they are descriptive.
