what guns do you have (or want) for what purpose? I was just thinking about it and I can think of some interesting purposes (which in turn justify buying more guns) I thought this may be an interesting discussion just to see what you guys come up with.

I'll go first

Self defense: SA loaded 1911 in .45 (have it)

Home defense: NEF 12ga pump w/18 inch barrel (sort of have it)

Zombie attack: M1 Garand since zombies move slow

Civil unrest/All hell breaks loose/SHTF: Colt AR15 .223 lighter than the garand and higher mag cap.

Car gun: Rossi snubbie .357 cant really explain that one, just sounds like a good idea and its cheap in case something happens to it.

Plinking:ruger 10/22 and 22/45 cause I like em

Hunting/Sniper gun: remington 700 in 300win mag. with a Zeiss conquest 6.5-20 x 50. because shooting stuff thats far away is fun

and of course the obligatory Barrett 50cal rifle for when the aliens show up in mechanized armor

ok now you go.

Note: the majority of my list falls under the "want" category

PPS.40 and Taurus 38 snubbie: carry guns

Well, I guess I could list a few and their purpose ... I have purchased most of my guns with a "purpose" in mind - mostly just as a excuse to buy it!!

The main purpose for every gun I own is that it "pleases" me!! Some are here as a reminder of the past (Garands, Carbines, '03s, 1917s, MN, etc,,) - Others because they are just somewhat of a novelty gun (AKs, SKS, 500S&W), others for hunting (shotguns mostly with a few 22s thrown in) -- others for fun (ARs, Mini-14, .17HMRs, etc..) --- and then there are handguns!!

1) Hunting
2) Competition
3) Zombie Practice (paper punchin')
4)Home Defense

One other I can think of would be a backup 401K plan.

Winchester 92 25-20 - Too Cool To Pass Up
Winchester 94 30-30 - loaner deer/pig rifle

I have several others that are trade guns so I won't list those here. Maybe another thread for the handguns.

I have an Airsoft 6mm M4 if you ever want to borrow it.. it shoots good and fast.. ammo is dirt cheap.. :thumbup:

If my Red Ryder 50th Anniversary Edition (still in unopened box w/ 5000 BB's) BB Gun counts for anything, I guess I got all my bases covered. Well, with that and a .40 and .45 for HD.

My guns and their purposes have morphed over the years, most of them can be used for at least a couple things. I think everybody should have at least one of the following:

357 revolver (I have a Smith and a Colt)
12 gauge pump (Mine is a Mossberg)
NEF/H&R shotgun, I like 12 ga. and .410
.22 rifle (mine is a Remington Model 12 but there are so many choices)
.22 pistol (I have a Ruger Mark II and a single action revolver)
A good deer rifle (Only thing I am missing right now!)

Just for the desk drawer I have a .32 H&R breaktop revolver too...
